Steps for configuring Leisure Suit Leo 2 for theC64 Mini
Issues with TheC64's firmware V1.3.2
I can confirm the game works with the steps outlined below if you have firmware v1.2.0.
But for some strange reason, it will freeze not long after you switch to disk-side-b if you have the latest firmware v1.3.2.
If you run into this issue, please post a note in thec64's fb group, in this thread here, and I'll try arrange a temporary workaround:
Main issues
This game requires two things that make life difficult on the c64 mini:
- Needs “accurate-disk” mode turned on your disks, which can be done via:
- either _AD into the filename (quick and easy)
- …or creating a .cjm file (a bit finnicky, but has some extra rewards)
- Disk-swapping (from side-a to side-b)
- To do so on the mini, you would need to arrange your disks into sub-folders (along with renaming them). I'd suggest the following:
- After doing so, you can perform disk-swapping via the steps mentioned here:
Personally, on this occasion, I preferred to use the .cjm file technique, for a better game experience from start to finish.
Why use a .cjm file instead of _AD flag?
My reasoning is due to these aspects of the game:
- Some parts of the game require keyboard input, so I tried my best to map thec64's extra buttons to 'most' of the required keys (see joystick diagram)
- A, B, C are needed during the multiple choice questions (I didn't have enough buttons left to map the letter 'D' 🙁)
- Space and Return keys were needed at certain points (I think on title page and elsewhere) to progress the game on
- Some parts of the game feature text in the upper border (during intro) and lower border (during outro). So I was able to use the .cjm file to adjust the vertical alignment to suit during each phase of the game, so that this text is always readable.
With my .cjm files, it will:
- set the accurate-disk setting for you
- adjust the vertical screen alignment to suit each point in the game (intro, main, outro) so that all text is always readable
- You will get most of the keyboard keys you need conveniently mapped to the extra joystick buttons
The mapping is as shown in this pic:
Ok, I want to do it the .CJM way then
Here's a .zip with my cjm's housed in my suggested sub-directories:
So all you'll need to do on your end will be to add your .d64 files into these sub-folders, and rename them to what I suggested in the 1st pic:
- FROM: Leisure Suit Leo 2 side a.d64
- TO: intro\Leo2.d64
- TO: outro\Leo2.d64
- FROM: Leisure Suit Leo 2 side b.d64
- TO: main\Leo2.d64
