1A is only enough to operate the Mini “as is” with the built in games. To do more, you need more juice. 2A is recommended if you have a keyboard or USB stick pugged in.
I use an Atolla hub. It has a 3A charging port which is more than enough for the Mini and is also a powered USB hub. Works great.
