This site is best viewed in a modern browser with JavaScript enabled. website updates Gurce Hi there, Just wanted to report a few broken links on the main website:  1. "Community >> Forum" doesnt link to here anymore, but to main website.  2. On the "The C64 mini >> Manuals" page, both manuals fail to download. Just wanted to report it early ;-) PS. I'm appreciating your recent updates on the site, faq, the BASIC walkthrough, firmware update instructions, the how-to on loading external d64 files via USB (and the news of a pending firmware update having an easier external program loader mechanism ;-)) So good stuff, looking forward to reading the pdf manual as a way to kill time as I anxiously await for it to arrive in the mail! :-D -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Gurce Ah, forum link working again, but not manuals yet. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- PantherUK I got the manuals a couple of hours ago without any problems... Maybe a few update teething issues... -------------------------------------------------------------------------- synchromesh No probs here. Try refreshing your browser ? -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Gurce Hmm, refreshing the browser surprisingly didn't help. But thanks for tipping me off that it worked for you guys, it spurred me on to investigate further. Perhaps I jumped onto the site too early and things weren't quite ready yet, so an incomplete/non-working version of the manuals web page got cached up on my browser. I'm using chrome on my android phone, so I went to " Settings >> Privacy >> Clear Browsing Data" to assure the cache got deleted. Then I re-visited the manuals web page and this time I could download it, awesome! :-) Maybe this is still a good heads up to the website devs, from my memory of html, they can inject some extra html into their pages to either force a complete reload on every visit, or discard the cached version after some period expires (an hour or so?). Might be worth doing as I imagine they'll be making lots of updates to their site in the coming days, and informing ppl to head to their website for the latest details, only for the users to find the old cached info instead. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Gurce Thought I'd better mention another issue I'm experiencing, I am not receiving email notifications of replies on these forums. This is despite me going to "username >> Settings" and changing the default settings to assure that all email notification options were turned on. Additionally, I'm wondering whether it's worth turning on email notifications by default, as some users may not be aware that it is off by default. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Gurce Ah nice, looks like email notification is working now, good stuff [2]:) -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Bronski I think they could do with re looking at the loading other software section. First step: Preparation  1. You need a USB memory stick (maximum size of 64Gb) which must be formatted using FAT32  2. Copy the d64 disk file that contains the program you want to load onto the root of the USB memory stick  3. Rename your disk file on the memory stick to THEC64-drive8.d64  4. You are now ready to load your program on THEC64 Mini. Really dont make any sense. Each game has to be in .d64 format, if you read above, it would appear every game you save on usb has to be called THEC64-drive8.d64. I wasn’t aware you could have multiple files with the same file name in the same directory. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Gurce Yep, I hear what you're saying there. I suspect out-of-the-box, the existing firmware seems to only support one hard-coded .d64 file of a fixed name, which does sound quite limiting. However they did hint on that page that the first firmware update would relate to selecting/loading programs, so I'm hopeful the situation will get better in time :-) [3]https://thec64.com/loading-other-programs/ "You’ll be pleased to know that we will be providing an easier and more powerful program loader in a future firmware update." -------------------------------------------------------------------------- RetroBiker They've also indicated the first firmware update will be available by the end of March... -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Plzsm Really excited for my arrival on Thursday but really disappointed by the details for loading your own games. If anyone can answers these questions I’d appreciate it So only one game loads at a time, when you turn off doesn’t it disappear?to add another game Do you need to turn off? Does the usb stick need to contain one game only?i assumed you could access the usb directory and just click on the game you wanted, the instructions sound like a real faff, I do hope firmware to fix it does come before the end of March, I’m less bothe REN about fancy visuals but accessing other games seems what a large majority of people want to do -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Gurce From what I've seen of replies by the c64 team on facebook comments, yes, their upcoming firmware update at end of march intends to address this. There was even a response to someone asking about how to play a multi-disk game, and they responded that the new firmware update will make that easier too. So I sense that they will have some sort of d64 loader menu, that will scan your USB stick for all its d64 files and let you select one to attach to. That sure would be nice, looking forward to see what they come up with :-) -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Plzsm Thank you for replying Yes I hope the firmware update is very soon and fixes this otherwise I can see people getting quite frustrated Don’t mean to be critical of the team as I think they have done a fantastic thing, but I am really surprised this wasn’t sorted before realise as it’s a big part of the sales and fan excitement On the flip side the built in games will keep me going a while and if the firmware fixes it then cool -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Bronski I’m sure it will get to a point when you can load up the usb stick with lots of .d64 images. Reading the current instructions seems a bit of an overkill to need a 64gb usb stick for a 64k file lol If I remember rightly, I used to use the command Load “$”,8 List and my 64 would read the contents of the inserted disk then display the contents of the disk on screen. Im not sure how the 64mini would handle a 64gb stick packed to the brim with files though, I guess some sort disk file management will be needed or it could be a bit like looking for a needle in a haystack. If everything in life was easy, life would be boring hey ;-) -------------------------------------------------------------------------- RetroBiker [4]Bronski TheC64 mini is VICE underneath which already has a system for selecting disk images to attach as units 8, 9, etc., and to attach cartridge images. I expect they have been working on a way to interface well between that and their carousel GUI. We should know next weekend. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Gurce I'm still not completely sure if it is VICE underneath, as I seem to recall the c64 team had a facebook post a while ago mentioning that a member of their team, Chris Smith, that was working on the firmware. [5]IFrame Taking a look at the embedded youtube video from that facebook post, there were a few filenames like vsync.c/h, c64port.c/h that got me thinking they might have their own proprietary emulator. I could be mistaken though, so I suppose we'll find out soon enough :-) -------------------------------------------------------------------------- RetroBiker [6]Gurce Indeed. I’m just going on what others have said. When I saw the video you mentioned, I assumed it referred to the carousel app that encompasses the emulator. I’m sure we will find out the real details soon enough. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- References Visible links 1. https://community.thec64.com/ 3. https://thec64.com/loading-other-programs/ 4. https://community.thec64.com/d/97/14 5. https://s9e.github.io/iframe/facebook.min.html#1751617961810104 6. https://community.thec64.com/d/97/16
