Is this Vic 20 Version available synchromesh Can I have one of these as well please [2]:) I will pay 100 bucks again for a Vic version as well ..This is real right ? [3]Vic Version ? -------------------------------------------------------------------------- RetroBiker [4]synchromesh That is an actual C64 mini. It's being reviewed by Jeff Minter (@llamasoft_ox on Twitter) by the look of it. I doubt there will be a VIC 20 clone. It sold around 1-2 million or so until 1985 where the C64 sold over 12 million all the way to at least 1994. It wouldn't seem likely that there would be enough market for a VIC 20 to make development (and licencing) viable, especially once the C64 is available... -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Dean_Demon I would say that's very unlikely, i still have a Vic 20 and actually still works. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- synchromesh [5]Dean_Demon i still have a Vic 20 and actually still works Me as well [6]:) -------------------------------------------------------------------------- MarcG The mini looks great, but I never had a C64 so the nostalgia is too low on it to actually justify another gadget. However I did have and love the VIC, so a VIC version, or a way to boot up in a VIC mode would have me signing up in a shot. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- synchromesh [7]RetroBiker It wouldn't seem likely that there would be enough market for a VIC 20 I'm talking about the case ... Not The games.. I never meant those. Im Quite happy to buy another C64 Mini but in a Vic style case.. Various cases could be good sellers as well .. Commodore 64 Commodore 64C Commodore Vic 20 Commodore 16 Same games but a choice of case [8]:) -------------------------------------------------------------------------- MarcG The case seems less of a good idea with the cost of different production runs and I'd execpt an even more limited appeal to what I want. I am talking about a VIC version, which I do understand, as Retrobike points out, is highly unlikely due to it's small target audience. Perhaps a very tiny little bit more likely is a bootable option to have a VIC mode as a later upgrade. I'm not hopeful, but it's what would make me bite. Whilst I can see this is desirable I don't have enough history with a C64 to tip me over the edge. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Trinket I'm sure it won't take long before people hack this thing open and find out how to replace the emulator with others. If it can run a C64, it should be able to run a VIC-20. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- synchromesh [9]Trinket If it can run a C64, it should be able to run a VIC-20. Its not as simple as that .. The C64 and VIC also use the same disk/tape format, however, you can NOT run C64 software on a VIC, nor can you run VIC software on a C64. even vice will only run Vic 20 games using xvic.exe. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Dean_Demon [10]synchromesh You are absolutely correct, they may look very similar but to be frank they are totally different but all Commodore systems are unique in their own way. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- MarcG [11]synchromesh Half the reason I didn't get a C64 was the annoyance it wouldn't run my VIC stuff. The other part was it was much easier to convince my parents to splash cash based on the educational advantages of a BBC B when a C64 just looked more of the same. Game-wise, looking at mates with C64s, that annoyed me a lot, until we got Elite... -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Trinket [12]synchromesh You misunderstand me. Since the TheC64 hardware obviously can run a C64 emulator, that means it's certainly powerful enough to run a VIC-20 emulator if it were able to be hacked. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Dean_Demon [13]MarcG There were some good reasons to enjoy the C64 over the Vic, more colours, higher resolution, more memory and of course a superb sound chip. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Gurce [14]Trinket I'm agreeing with Trinket on this one, I also feel the given hardware has enough grunt to run a vic20 emulator. Hope someone in the community hacks away at it and makes it happen, would be great to see :-) -------------------------------------------------------------------------- MarcG [15]Dean_Demon Of course! But it doesn't hold the nostalgia to me, give me a Vic/Beeb/ST mini and you can take my cash... -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Dean_Demon [16]MarcG No problem with that, just enjoy any system that you had some great times with. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- synchromesh [17]Gurce I'm agreeing with Trinket on this one, I also feel the given hardware has enough grunt to run a vic20 emulator. Hope someone in the community hacks away at it and makes it happen, would be great to see :-) There is absolutely No chance Vic software will run no matter how much Grunt unless it has the vice emulation for the VIC20 as well as the C64 incorporated ... At least as it is anyway -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Gurce [18]synchromesh Yep, you are basically agreeing with Trinket and myself. That is exactly the perspective we're holding. If the hardware is capable of emulating a c64, it is capable of emulating a vic20. So yes, that is our thought, that you should be able to drop a vic20 emulator onto this hardware (such as vice), and run vic20 software. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- synchromesh [19]Gurce our thought, that you should be able to drop a vic20 emulator onto this hardware (such as vice), and run vic20 software. Ahh now if your talking modding then of course its possible you may even get a SNES going [20]:) I just meant out of the box as is .. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- References Visible links 1. https://community.thec64.com/ 4. https://community.thec64.com/d/70/1 5. https://community.thec64.com/d/70/2 7. https://community.thec64.com/d/70/5 9. https://community.thec64.com/d/70/8 10. https://community.thec64.com/d/70/9 11. https://community.thec64.com/d/70/9 12. https://community.thec64.com/d/70/9 13. https://community.thec64.com/d/70/11 14. https://community.thec64.com/d/70/12 15. https://community.thec64.com/d/70/13 16. https://community.thec64.com/d/70/14 17. https://community.thec64.com/d/70/16 18. https://community.thec64.com/d/70/17 19. https://community.thec64.com/d/70/18
