Take My MONEY! seeking_virtue My first memories were on this machine. watching closely for the details -------------------------------------------------------------------------- dorfl68 Take mine as well! -------------------------------------------------------------------------- ReflectedLightEntertainment Also, keep in mind that you can also get C64 emulators for Windows and other computer platforms such as Linux and Mac. [2]http://vice-emu.sourceforge.net/index.html#download Games can be found on a lot of websites. If you are using a Windows computer, you can also get Cloanto's C64Forever for a small price and the underlying emulator is WinVICE (VICE for Windows). If you have a dead C64, you can get Keyrah 2 from here: [3]https://icomp.de/shop-icomp/en/shop/product/keyrah-v2.html and use a C64 or C64c case or a reproduction case. Just need a good working keyboard. Then with some key mapping work, you probably could use it with WinVICE without much difficulty. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- grrlskout [4]ReflectedLightEntertainment I've found it difficult to find a good emulator for my Mac these days. I'm excited for this release! -------------------------------------------------------------------------- ReflectedLightEntertainment Can your Mac run Windows or Windows applications? If so, then run WinVICE using the Windows version. You can also try any of the following here: [5]http://vice-emu.sourceforge.net/macosx.html This way, you can try out the versions available for how well it runs on your Mac. I suggest versions for Intel MacOS X systems for most contemporary post-PPC Macs. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Wombstar Last time i tried to download emulators i have always ended up with bugs and virus, and then the ones that are ok never work properly, and the games tend to be found on dodgy websites and then they're loaded with bugs and never work properly. The mini solves theses issues.. plus who wants to play c64 via their laptop or desktop? No thanks, part the appeal is having something real that looks and feels good. that's part of the peal and the novelty. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Trinket [6]Wombstar You should never download emulators from "dodgy" sites. All of them that are worth using are open source, and are directly available from the project's pages. If you got a virus from an emulator, then sorry but lrn2internet. And all major emulated retro platforms out there accurately run everything but a handful of fringe titles, so I question the bugs as well. If you can't figure out how to get disk images to work on a working emulator, then even if it's possible to sideload into the mini, you're going to be stuck with what's preloaded because it's the same situation. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- ReflectedLightEntertainment [7]Wombstar First off, don't listen to you antivirus programs when it comes to C64 files. Download from the sources I mentioned and you'll probably won't have any viruses. The ones I mentioned are fairly well vetted and clean but some antivirus programs will have a fuss with C64 programs because they just happen to see a sequence of binary values in the files that resembles a virus. They aren't because you are not executing those files natively but through the emulator so it would be safe. This is because the makers of those antivirus/anti-malware software may not be aware of or are thinking about Commodore programs. Keep that in mind. If you want authentic, get a real C64 because then you have the real authentic feel. You also can have the same thing by some of things I mentioned like using Keyrah v2, a real C64 keyboard and case (minus the C64 mobo) and a usb cable to the USB port and you'll have both the C64 keyboard and possibly even an actual C= era joystick that you can use. I use the desktop for running C64 emulation. If I want to, I could simply use a real C64 keyboard, keyrah v2 inside a case and bingo.... I'm ready to go for Commodore emulation. Keyrah is an module that goes in place of the motherboard of a C= 8-bit and it will take the signals from the keys and appropriately map them right for use inside the emulator. There is a software side of that equation when fully supporting Keyrah v2. You're better off using an emulator that runs on your computer versus the browser emulators. They are partial emulating and often do not perform true drive emulation very well that many games and demos requires to work properly. There is a reason for what I suggested. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Wombstar i'm not really into emulators.. where's the fun in playing them on a laptop? although i have tried them, and i do have a Sega one.. lol I already have a real C64, i don't want to have to spend hours loading tapes and all that nonsense. The mini just looks great as it is, it's not just about being able to access games it's just a cool looking piece of kit, and something i can have a bit a fun with. Trinket. i'm not stupid i know how to use an emulator, i have no trouble adding games and mapping keys for the ZX Vega. I said the games never work properly or are buggy, not that i don't know how to load them. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- ReflectedLightEntertainment [8]Wombstar Not all emulators are made equal as far as compatibility. If you are using D64, I suggest emulators like VICE because it supports True Drive emulation which makes handling of multi-file games/demos that are packaged in one or more disk images. Try locating a better copy of the games or demos from a more reputable source. I pointed to sources before. I would not be surprised that the links won't be allowed here by the growing moderation but fair enough. You may want to check out on Lemon64 or some of the other forums and we can direct you to the sources of finding the games. As for licensed/unlicensed games, I don't give a rip about that b.s. Sorry Retro Games, Ltd. If you have an original and want a D64 copies, none of the original developers will ever sue you for that. You should be able to also find a .tap file of your cassette based games. If you like, send me a list of titles in PM. Click on my name and then look for a weird ' i ' looking symbol in the "pop-up" and then click it another 'popup' saying "Send ReflectedLightEntertainment a message". -------------------------------------------------------------------------- References Visible links 1. https://community.thec64.com/ 2. http://vice-emu.sourceforge.net/index.html#download 3. https://icomp.de/shop-icomp/en/shop/product/keyrah-v2.html 4. https://community.thec64.com/d/7/3 5. http://vice-emu.sourceforge.net/macosx.html 6. https://community.thec64.com/d/7/6 7. https://community.thec64.com/d/7/6 8. https://community.thec64.com/d/7/10
