Glitchy controls on 2 player games winst81 I can't seem to get any of the two player games working properly as it seems that each controller affects the movement of both players at the same time. For example on pitstop 2 it seems that the other player can control my acceleration, and when we're both moving about in the pitstop it seems neither of us can move correctly because we're interfering with each other's movements. Also happens on games on USB like bubble bobble and Bruce Lee, making them unplayable as 2 player. I've tried a combo of the included joystick and an innext SNES joypad, and two innext joypads together and it doesn't make a difference. Anyone noticed anything similar or can suggest a fix? Thanks! -------------------------------------------------------------------------- synchromesh Not really tried 2 player as I have only one stick anyway ... Could it be you need 2 official joysticks ? I'm assuming that's all Retrogames would have tested them with ? -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Jammet International Karate +, 2 player mode works good. The Joystick controls the white player, the iBuffalo Gamepad controls the red one. No strange interference. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- winst81 [2]Jammet Thanks. Have you also tried pitstop 2 on two player with the buffalo? Did that also work okay? Maybe it's a problem with the innext controllers. Would prefer to avoid having to buy another c64mini joystick, as I really don't like how it feels and they're pretty pricey as it is. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- chris1981 I have had the same problems. Tried microprose soccer two player. Was so bad was not sure what time I was. Had same with pitstop 2 as well and bubble bobble and speedball 2 as well -------------------------------------------------------------------------- winst81 [3]chris1981 What controllers are you using? -------------------------------------------------------------------------- chris1981 [4]winst81 Tried the joystick that comes with the mini and two iNNEXT Classic USB Gamepad Retro SNES USB Controller. All seem to control both players -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Jammet I'll give Pitstop 2 a spin later tonight. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- winst81 Just tried IK+ and it's glitchy too. If Jammet plays pitstop 2 fine on his ibuffalo on two player, then I reckon it must be an issue with the innext controllers that Chris1981 and I have. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- MIK [5]winst81 There may not be enough power in the USB power plug which some have reported to be the case for a PS4 controller. Try a 2.4A or above USB power plug to see if that helps. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- winst81 [6]MIK ah okay, maybe that's it. I've got a 1A power plug going into the mini, and my USB hub is separately powered by a 1A plug, so maybe it's not enough. Can I just use a 2.4A plug to go into the mini? Or will I overload it? Otherwise, I'll see if I can get a 2.4A plug for the USB hub. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Jammet MIK could be on to something. Pitstop II works flawlessly with that setup I mentioned above, but the joystick is connected straight to the Mini, but the iBuffalo SNES gamepad is connected via a powered USB hub, alongside with a USB stick and a keyboard. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- RetroBiker [7]winst81 I'm using a USB hub with a 3A charging port which goes to the Mini with no problems. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- MIK [8]winst81 Like you I didn't worry about the USB plug at first as I used a 3rd party one aimed at the NES mini which I use on my NES & SNES. It also worked fine with what comes in the C64 mini box..., until I plugged in a PS4 controller and it made the C64 mini stutter at half speed. I looked at the plug and yeah it was 1A. If your in the UK. I went to The Range as it was near to me, (Bank Holiday weekend) and came a cross a 2.4A USB plug for £5.99. I tried that and the C64mini was stable with a PS4 pad. It did work to some degree fine but after a while UP stopped working. I gave up on the PS4 controller as I had some SNES innext USB pads coming in the post, when they arrived and still using the 2.4A plug the pads worked sweet with the C64mini. Happy times and the very first time I could properly enjoy the C64mini as I would expect it to be used! [9]:) I know it's a pain spending more money so my advice first is to check all your mobile phone charges in the home first before buying a higher milliamp plug. BTW I would try a higher amp plug in your USB hub first as that is supporting more than 1 device, what it was designed to do. Here is a link to the 2.4 plug I bought directly in store, it has 2 usb ports but I only use one. Zoom in on the cover to see the specs. [10]https://www.therange.co.uk/electrical/batteries-and-chargers/usb-power-plug-two-ports/#167240 -------------------------------------------------------------------------- module180 [11]winst81 The 2.4A plug won't overload your c64 mini as this is the maximum electrical current that particular power supply will deliver. The C64 mini, plus it's accessories, like USB keyboard, flash drive, USB HUB, joystick, will only take as much electrical current as they need to function normally, no more. If there isn't enough electrical current for all devices/components, one or more devices will most likely behave strangely, probably the higher current drawing devices will behave the worst. On the other hand, the Voltage is the one you should watch out for. The higher or more Voltage (electric potential/pressure) you deliver into the device will certainly overload the C64 mini, as Voltage determines how strongly an electrical current is sent around/through an electrical system. I hope this helps in your quest to find an appropriate power solution to you problem. Regards from module180 :-) -------------------------------------------------------------------------- winst81 [12]MIK Thanks! Sounds like a good idea. I managed to find a 2A USB power plug for the mini last night, but it still behaves the same way. So I've now ordered a 2.5A ac adapter which I hope is going to be the right fit for my USB hub. Hopefully that should fix it, but will let you know how I get on. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- winst81 [13]MIK So my 2.5A ac adapter arrived for my USB hub, but the 2 player controls are still glitchy! And that's with a separate 2A adapter powering the mini separately I even tried using the 2.5A adapter to power the mini and then just plugged in the joystick and innext SNES pad directly into the mini without using any kind of USB hub, and it's the same. Anyone have any other ideas what it could be? I've been using Pitstop 2 as a standard test, where I straight away go into the pits with both cars, and when I hold left on one player's joystick and tap up or down on the other player's joystick, both wheel cursors move left. Am I right in thinking ibuffalo pad users aren't having any probs with this, while innext users are? But that's weird that Pietro is also having issues with two of the official joysticks! -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Pietro I have just tried the built in Pit Stop 2 with 2 official “THEC64” joysticks, each one connected to one of the two USB ports, and I found a lot of interference between the two joysticks... it is impossible to play with two human players even using two official joysticks!!! This is a huge bug on the “THEC64”... I will try the other 2 players built in games... P.s. my firmware is the latest... -------------------------------------------------------------------------- MIK [14]Pietro Maybe try switching the machine on with just the 1 stick plugged in and then plug the other one in once your looking at the Carousel... Might be worth a try just in case. Sorry if you have tried already or find it achieves nothing! -------------------------------------------------------------------------- MIK In the manual of the ZX Spectrum Vega it is recommend you use a 300mA plug and that thing doesn't even have USB ports to allow for extra joysticks. memory sticks or keyboards! Top of Page 3: [15]https://archive.org/stream/sinclair-zx-spectrum-vega#page/n3/mode/2up I'm getting the feeling though that port one is not supported at this time as others are coming across the same sort of problem trying to play 2player over the last few days. One thing, that extra mA will help if using USB sticks, Keyboards ect... so not a total waste. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- module180 [16]MIK The ZX Spectrum Vega must only need the 300mA to supply internal electrical components, and peripherals like controllers, plus any others. Just like the Sega Master System requires 9V 850mA-1A (for most models), and the PC Engine requires 9V 650mA, both of which can be powered by the same Sega power supply. The PC Engine only takes what current (Amperes) it needs from the Sega power supply, and no more. Or the IPhone can be charged on the IPad charger, as the IPad charger is 2.1A and the IPhone only requires 1A to charge and function, and will NOT draw any more current than the 1A it needs. But vice versa it isn’t true, as the IPhone charger will NOT give the IPad enough current, and as a result the IPad’s battery will charge much slower and be damaged over time, so charging an IPad with IPhone charger is not considered a long term solution. Both devices won’t overload as the Voltage for them remains virtually the same (within +-10% tolerances). I suspect that the software, firmware or hardware must have a glitch, as I don’t seem to have any problems with my C64 mini, with a 4 port USB hub, 2 Retrolink branded controllers (SNES and SMD style), a Logitech USB Keyboard and USB flash drive all connected at once, powered by a 5V 2A power supply. Cool. Thank you [5]:) -------------------------------------------------------------------------- MIK Guys, After installing 1.0.7, inc a shutdown soon after and pulled the plug for 30secs for a full reset... Pits Stop II is now working in 2 player mode with my 2.4A USB plug. Tested GREEN. Official Joystick (front port) & 1 innext SNES pad (back port). Two innext SNES pads. That's the only two player game I've quickly tested, my dog doesn't want to play so was 2 player solo, (woman & kids not ere at the mo). Everything is a-ok with this one any way. [6]:)[7]:+1: -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Jammet Good to hear! [8]:) -------------------------------------------------------------------------- winst81 Yes! Finally managed to install the firmware update and all working fine now! Only checked Pitstop II and bubble bobble so far, but both play perfectly on two player. Thanks very much to the c64mini crew for sorting this update so quickly! -------------------------------------------------------------------------- [9]« Previous Page References Visible links 1. https://community.thec64.com/ 2. https://community.thec64.com/d/272/20 3. https://thec64.com/setup-questions/ 4. https://community.thec64.com/d/272/22 9. https://community.thec64.com/d/272?page=1&id=272-glitchy-controls-on-2-player-games
