DSProject If I have heard right, it’s an 8-button requirement on joystics. Is that going to be changed in the future? -------------------------------------------------------------------------- RetroBiker A lot of people are hoping so... -------------------------------------------------------------------------- JohnnyG If they allow 1 button joysticks how would you call up the virtual keyboard? You would always need a usb keyboard.... -------------------------------------------------------------------------- adgloride [2]JohnnyG it’s just a shame they never put some buttons at the back of the keyboard so you can use a 1 button joystick. You’ll need at least 2 buttons on a joystick to call up the virtual keyboard. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- oldskool [3]JohnnyG If they allow 1 button joysticks how would you call up the virtual keyboard? You would always need a usb keyboard.... Simple mate... They allow 1 button Joysticks and you need to use an external keyboard. If you do not have an external keyboard you need to use a two button Joystick - not exactly rocket science hehe. They could include firmware notes on the mini to detail this. Or they could update the firmware to include a page in the options that details this. It might even be possible to check for an external keyboard and only allow one button Joysticks to work if an external keyboard is attached - this latter option would require the C64 mini to be able to specifically detect a keyboard as a usb device. The latter would be the best option, but if it is not possible - it's not really a problem. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Gab75 I hope that a dedicated joypad (or at least a "more confortable" joystick) will be available between the official accesories soon! [4]:) -------------------------------------------------------------------------- walnutwhip why 8 buttons anyway? do the extra buttons on the official joystick do anything anyway? needs a way to remap them. using 3rd party controllers is a mess because the button placements are all over the place, -------------------------------------------------------------------------- oldskool [5]walnutwhip why 8 buttons anyway? The developers have mapped the buttons of the included joystick into the user interface. If you bring up the virtual keyboard or you go into various menus you can see this via graphical pointers to these buttons. 8 buttons were not needed to do this, it was not a requirement, they had 8 buttons on the joystick and they made a design decision to use them, they felt it made the interface work well. The interface works ok - the problem is the joystick does not. In any case people want to use other control options and of course many joysticks, pads and controllers do not have 8 buttons and people also like to be able to remap functionality. The latter didn't always exist back in the day, but it is a modern standard and expectation. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- walnutwhip [6]oldskool ok gotcha. i think ive only used the virtual keyboard once, and that was by accident. still needs a way to remap functionality. i think most agree on that, if theyre using pads. and it should be fairly high up on the list of priorities aswell, seeing as decent control of the games is a fundamental thing unlike text fixes. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Darbyram [7]walnutwhip I agree a remap option would be a great idea, especially with all the different controllers people have. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- adgloride I have found on my ps3 controller that it decided to remap the buttons differently. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- References Visible links 1. https://community.thec64.com/ 2. https://community.thec64.com/d/258/3 3. https://community.thec64.com/d/258/3 5. https://community.thec64.com/d/258/7 6. https://community.thec64.com/d/258/8 7. https://community.thec64.com/d/258/9
