Internal Memory AndyF Probably a silly question to ask, but does anyone know of the internal memory storage of the mini? I'm just wondering how much scope there could be in the future for the addition of more games... and yes, I know that each game is only around a few dozen Kb in size, but internally, there would only be a finite amount spare (unless the capability of adding extra flash via USB is considered a possibility) -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Gab75 I don't know if the picture in the following link can be considered as reliable. In any case, the Flash NAND chip should be of 256 Mbytes (2 Gbit). [2]https://hd.tudocdn.net/759141 -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Goclastninja Yeah would be cool to just add games to the system without having to have a usb stick in -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Gab75 PS: the Toshiba "TC58NVG1S3HTA00" should be a NAND E2PROM of 2 Gb (256 Mbytes) -------------------------------------------------------------------------- AndyF it's more memory than I thought, so I wonder how much is actually unused at present (given that there would be overheads such as HDMI etc) -------------------------------------------------------------------------- RetroBiker [3]AndyF I wonder how much is actually unused at present Well, put it like this, the entire firmware file for 1.0.6 is 2.5MB. That's likely to be compressed, however I imagine it includes all 64 games and the carousel app. The save states are probably a full memory dump, so 64K each. There are 4x65 of those (including BASIC) which is 16.5MB. Make of that what you will... -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Darbyram [4]RetroBiker That's if the firmware is the full image? -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Gab75 [5]RetroBiker The save states are probably a full memory dump, so 64K each. There are 4x65 of those (including BASIC) which is 16.5MB. Each savestate has a related PNG (snapshot), so you need to add about 5-10 kbytes per savestate... in any case, a good percentage of NAND memory should be free! [6];) -------------------------------------------------------------------------- RetroBiker [7]Darbyram That's if the firmware is the full image? Oh, absolutely. Just a few calculations, however the machine is a very cut down Linux and you can do that in very little space when you try (no networking, only 2 apps, etc). I offer no warranty, expressed or implied. Caveat emptor. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Gab75 I don't know for sure, but probably the firmware update doesn't include the 64 games images. To make a comparison, the dump of the SNES mini kernel is 2.6 Mbytes and it doesn't include the 21 bundled ROMs (the SNES mini and theC64 mini interfaces are rather similar). -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Darbyram [8]Gab75 Its a pity there is not a tool like there is with the snes mini -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Gab75 [9]Darbyram "certain things" you shouldn't say/write in the official forum! [10]:P [11]:P Joking aside, for now there isn't a tool similar to the one used to "customize" the NES/SNES mini... in the future who know?
