Loaded ok through basic and got to the title screen of game (gauntlet2). But from there nothing else happened when pressing buttons on the joystick - to continue with the game... -------------------------------------------------------------------------- RetroBiker [2]Jenny_Gibbon This is probably because it is expecting the joystick on port 1 and the Mini provides it on port 2 when only one is connected. There is a lot of info about it on the forum. Here is one summary I made earlier: [3]https://community.thec64.com/d/229-joysticks-pads-that-work-on-the-c64-mini/22 Great choice, BTW! "Elf, your life force is running out" -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Jenny_Gibbon Thanks for getting back to me. Very helpful info there. Also can I ask, does the usb stick have to be in while the game is running? The way I had things connected was.. I had the usb stick on the left port (as you look at that side of the machine) and the joystick on the right port. (Also if you remove the joystick whilst on the basic screen it takes you back to the carousel.) - I was trying to use a keyboard to type the commands, with the usb stick in -------------------------------------------------------------------------- RetroBiker [4]Jenny_Gibbon The Mini only recognises changes to connected devices while in the carousel. You'll need to use a powered USB hub to get the full experience while in BASIC. I can recommend the Atolla hub: [5]IFrame It has a charging port which can power the mini so you don't need an extra plug. Once you have the game loaded, you can save the state of the machine in a save slot and then you'll be able to play without needing the USB drive plugged in. If the game needs to load more stuff off the disk while running, then you'll still need the drive connected. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Jenny_Gibbon [6]RetroBiker Ah... I wondering about a usb hub, but was’nt sure about it. I only have the one joystick that came with the Commodore. Which of the usb ports is port 2? (Am new to all this lol) -------------------------------------------------------------------------- RetroBiker [7]Jenny_Gibbon The Mini assigns the first connected joystick to port 2 whichever USB slot it is connected to. There is rumoured to be an upcoming firmware update which will allow this to be selectable, however there is no confirmation of this. If you don't have a patched version, the easiest is to get a cheap controller that you can plug in at the same time as the joystick. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Jenny_Gibbon Would a ps4 controller work on the mini with the usb cable? -------------------------------------------------------------------------- MIK If you have one... Some say a PS4 controller does work, however your need a USB power supply for the C64mini with around 2.5amp to power it. Some people have also had the odd issues with them even with enough power so it's luck of the draw if it fully works, or may need to be fully charged before you do so. It's not officially supported any way. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Jenny_Gibbon Thanks for your responses and help. I ordered a usb hub and also tried the ps remote and it all works a treat now! And have been playing gauntlet 2 successfully. Although is there an option to play as one player only with this game? As I had the two controllers plugged in (as per your recommendations) and i ended up as playing with two controllers? -------------------------------------------------------------------------- MIK Not that I have tested for lack of having a 2nd official stick, but I have seen people say that if you have two official joysticks plugged in then both port 1 and 2 are available. I cant say for sure if this is fact or not, or if the firmware supports it yet as spare sticks are not out until the end of the month. I'm sure you have tried but just in case, try the controllers in different ports? I don't think Gauntlet has keyboard controls, in the first release instructions it says controls will be displayed on screen but yeah... Keyboard controls is a way of getting around this as Arkanoid Revenge of Doh is port 1 for player 1. Press "K" on the title screen for Arkanoid RoD to get keyboard controls. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- References Visible links 1. https://community.thec64.com/ 2. https://community.thec64.com/d/252/1 3. https://community.thec64.com/d/229-joysticks-pads-that-work-on-the-c64-mini/22 4. https://community.thec64.com/d/252/3 5. https://ws-eu.amazon-adsystem.com/widgets/q?ServiceVersion=20070822&OneJS=1&Operation=GetAdHtml&MarketPlace=GB&ad_type=product_link&tracking_id=_&marketplace=amazon®ion=GB&asins=B01FS9Q01K&show_border=true&link_opens_in_new_window=true 6. https://community.thec64.com/d/252/4 7. https://community.thec64.com/d/252/5
