Update is online Darbyram as the title says -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Goclastninja Does absolutely nothing different, what an anticlimax, waiting all day...and for what...absolutely nothing..now how about a proper fcuking update asap -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Parcival [2]@Goclastninja Don't hold back tell us what you really think, lol. Applying mine now, What a joke if it does nothing useful. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Parcival * Maps additional functions to joystick buttons for some games not worth it * Makes minor changes to descriptions for some games ie text changes * Fixes an occasional scenario where an additional USB joystick is not detected until a restart meh * Fixes an intermittent audio click when opening the THEC64 Mini’s MENU in-game what audio click? Essentially nothing then. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- harrylongbone i suspected as much -------------------------------------------------------------------------- adgloride The last firmware was in December according the system before upgrade. So 4 months just for this? It does nothing. I’m just hope the next firmware is released very soon. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- AndyF I've not applied it yet, but I will when I get home. However, the update may seem minor, but I don't think we know just how long this particular fix was in development prior to today. For example, was the firmware update in planning after the unit was shipped but before the launch date? - if so, then its understandable that this "minor" update should be worked on first, then taking feedback from the developers for the next. Personally I'd like to see the developers issue some feedback to some of the questions already raised by this forum. Quite a lot of us have put forward suggestions for possible enhancements - but how do we know that the team are actually reading these? - we never see replies from them saying that this or that could be included in a future release! I have no idea how expensive it is for a firmware to be released, and I have no idea how long it takes from start to finish, nor how many people are chosen as beta testers (if any), but lets be honest here ... it is our feedback which ultimately governs how user friendly the unit is. The Mini is a pretty good unit as it is, let down chiefly by a pretty basic joystick, slow loading of games from a memory stick, and (at the moment), the ability to only have one game per memory stick. If our suggestions are reasonable and would enhance the quality and usablity of the mini, then the developers would be foolhardy to ignore us. From what I have seen on this forum so far, this is exactly what they are doing ... ignoring us. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- spinal I don't see what people are upset about. The description for this update has always said exactly what it does. You already knew it did 'nothing' before it was released. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- synchromesh [3]spinal I don't see what people are upset about. The description for this update has always said exactly what it does. You already knew it did 'nothing' before it was released. I kind of agree ... This is the one we really want ... Firmware upgrade version 1.0.7 will be available here ASAP after version 1.0.6 Version 1.0.7 – Planned Changes: – Choose from a selection of disks on USB – Allow multi-disk files/games to be accessed – Other update features to be confirmed ASAP! -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Parcival [4]spinal I'm not upset, I like moaning. I'm British. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Goclastninja Yeah I know that but they should of pushed out more...like who knows when the games from memory stick will be sorted..a month a year..who knows...cant see whats so complex about fixing these most basic of issues -------------------------------------------------------------------------- RetroBiker [5]Goclastninja They are a very small team (about 6, I think) working on everything. I don’t know who does their development, but it’s not going to be a big team. To be honest, I’d be surprised if this project was the full time job for any of them. They have clearly stated that 1.0.7 will have fixes related to the loader and that it will be out soon after 1.0.6. There are loads of people who don’t even have access to the Mini, yet. The team have done a great job getting this project together so far and I think they deserve our support while they deliver these fixes and updates. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- spinal [6]Goclastninja cant see whats so complex about fixing these most basic of issues I can. It's hard work. I ported a C64 emulator and I can tell you, just implementing something 'simple' can sometimes be far more difficult than you ever imagined. Adding for example, a way to select from a range of disk images is a pain in itself. You have to come up with a way to read the files, display them in a nice gui etc. to switch virtual drive numbers, to come up with a fool proof way to load an unknown game with as few issues as possible, be able to change a disk without rebooting or trying to load it as a fresh game. To know the difference between file formats eg, disc, tape, cart. Remember, the mini was really just designed to play the included games without issues. All of these games are a specific format and loaded (from what I can tell) exactly the same way. Just because someone wants a feature, doesn't make it a simple job. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- AB85 [7]RetroBiker Sure. But an update on the forum from them would be nice. It's a £65 machine that is great but needs our input to help it along. We've got joystick issues and some general game loading/port issues that need addressing. If this was my project I would be answering all I can. Right now, it's coming off as a bit of a cash grab. I'm sure that isn't the intention at all but it's been out a week and communication/support has been sparse. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- MIK Has anyone tried to reset the mini after installing the 0.6 update to see if it really does go back to factory default which was like version 0.0.0 December date and build? -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Darbyram [8]MIK It does not change -------------------------------------------------------------------------- RetroBiker [9]MIK A factory reset on a device only clears the user memory. For the Mini, that’s the game save slots. It will never return a device to an earlier firmware revision. When you update the firmware, the previous one is gone. Normally, anyway. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Jammet Very much looking forward to the one after this, and I'm also very grateful for all the small steps. I'm sure a lot of hours have been put into this. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- MIK [10]Darbyram Was worth asking just in case some issue crops up. I will proceed with the update. Cheers. [11]:) -------------------------------------------------------------------------- MIK [12]RetroBiker I'll wait till after dinner, (An hour) and if all looks ok on here I'll add it. Cheers! -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Gab75 Obviously this update doesn't make big changes... in any case, from what I have seen, the italian text of the games has been improved (now there are less grammatical errors! [13]:P ) and the small "clicks" audible when opening theC64 mini MENU in-game are disappeared... Update is online Scorf What they should have done of course is set out the update as a series of Pokes followed by an SYS command! -------------------------------------------------------------------------- redbuddha I think I will wait until the next firmware update. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- synchromesh [2]redbuddha I think I will wait until the next firmware update. I don't think you can jump updates ... Either way this one has to go on first .. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- RetroBiker [3]synchromesh I don't think you can jump updates ... You often can. Usually, problems arise if a firmware update updates the firmware updater, in which case, you can't skip the update. Otherwise, since you are completely replacing what was there before, there is rarely a problem. OS updates often require sequential updates as they tend to be differential. My Mini was 1.0.0 when I applied the 1.0.6 update. I would expect you'd be fine jumping straight to 1.0.7. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- synchromesh [4]RetroBiker I would expect you'd be fine jumping straight to 1.0.7. Quite possibly your right ... I'm just assuming ... BTW ..Ant specifics on adding an avatar it wont let me add mine ? -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Parcival [5]spinal I'm not upset, I like moaning. I'm British. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- RetroBiker [6]synchromesh Ant specifics on adding an avatar it wont let me add mine ? It might require the image to be fairly small. There's probably a maximum file size. I can't remember if I read what it was somewhere, but had decided to use a very low resolution 8-bit feel image anyway. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- RetroBiker [7]W12MODS does the usb have to.be formatted to FAT32 for the firmware updates like adding games? Yep. The carousel and C64 emulator apps are both running on the same Linux OS with the same device drivers. Also, it mentions it on page 22 of the User Guide. [8]😉 -------------------------------------------------------------------------- KenS Well I upgraded my mini, now my USB stick works, can see the programs listings. (.prg files). Will do some testing later. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- oldskool If Retro are adding the a KEY firmware update soon as they say on the back of this minor update - what is the issue? As in, surely that's understandable given the device is only just out? I suppose everyone has different levels of patience. I know we all want our games on one usb stick and it's be great to do that and sure there are issues many of us have encountered, but we have to give the guys a bit of time, right? -------------------------------------------------------------------------- johnnyhotrocks [9]oldskool This is the modern world for you, people have no patience what so ever and expect what ever their peeve is to be sorted now if not yesterday LOL. I rather the C64 Team took care and effort to make substantial decent updates (1.07) than wasting resources and time on little niggly issues like an audio click that is only heard for a micro second upon loading. Better USB support should be on that (1.07) as a priority i feel though as this will solve the Competition Poo clone joystick problem if a wider range of controllers are supported. Although saying that i wouldnt expect to wait months for the fixes, but i have this nasty feeling support may dry up as the team move on to other projects like the full size version. After all they have now got a flow of rvenue coming in of the back of us fans rushing out to buy their youth back with the mini. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- oldskool BIG question for Retro... Can we leave this update and simply update with 1.7? -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Darbyram Do gifs not work on here? -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Gurce I agree with previously aired thoughts that they're a small team that have done the best they can with the time and resources that they've got. I feel that they are reading as much of these forums as possible, despite not being able to respond to every concern. An example of this that springs to my mind is when the manual referred to this url to learn more about the keyboard mappings: [10]https://thec64.com/keyboard/ A week or so ago, I visited that page and found it was blank and reported it in these forums. There was no direct response from them on the matter, but I didn't take it badly, as it was just a gentle reminder from me to the team that something was missing. Anyway, I visited that site a day or so ago, lo-and-behold, they've added content there, nice! :-) So yeah, I'd like to think all the feedback coming from us is being heard, they just may not have the time to respond to everything. I've also got to admit, as much as I enjoy following the forum and reading all the posts, it can be quite an overwhelming amount of posts to catch up with every day. I wouldn't blame anyone else (including the c64 team) if they feel the same way. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- RetroBiker [11]Gurce I feel that they are reading as much of these forums as possible, despite not being able to respond to every concern. Indeed. You can tell this from the new "Startup Questions" page which seems to cover all the startup niggles people have been having and the FAQ page appeared after launch, too. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- MIK Anyone notice the Power button now works around the other way, hold for 3 secs to turn on and 1 press to turn off. Much better. [12]:) -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Parcival [13]MIK Anyone notice the Power button now works around the other way, hold for 3 secs to turn on and 1 press to turn off. Much better. [14]:) No, mine works exactly as it did before the update - hold it for 3 secs to turn on, soon as you press it, it turns off. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- RetroBiker [15]Parcival No, mine works exactly as it did before the update - hold it for 3 secs to turn on, soon as you press it, it turns off. Same here, however I haven't fully power cycled since the upgrade. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- MIK [16]RetroBiker Ummm, I wiped the machine back to factory state last night soon after updating it as there was a flashing disk icon issue which you may of seen, that never fixed it btw... When I get time I'll double check as it will be a full cold start-up and not just a 30secs unplug which I did do, I suspect I'm going mad. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- RetroBiker [17]MIK I suspect I'm going mad. That's the retro feeling. [18]😉 I'll try a power cycle later... -------------------------------------------------------------------------- RetroBiker [19]RetroBiker I'll try a power cycle later...
