Realistic wish list thash1zn1t I would consider it perfect if it could do the following in order of preference: File browser to allow easy selection and loading of disks, tapes and virtual carts. If I can only have one it would be to be able to load tapes (.tap) so we can enjoy the loading screens and music Support for the db9 to usb retrofun! Adaptor and 8bit Atari based joysticks like the zip stick Be able to be set to auto boot into a particular game or the file browser I think thec64 is fantastic and is the first implementation to get the smooth scrolling with no tearing and almost perfect audio representation. Truly great value and I am really looking forward to where you take its development. Thank you -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Jammet Sounds all very reasonable. I've also been hoping for an option to boot straight into BASIC and having instant access to a file browser. I'll add: A virtual joystick using the keyboard. Not everybody has a hub, and a simple option to have the numpad as joystick 1 or 2 would be nice. Perhaps with a way to define what keys you want, instead, and having one key on the keyboard to switch between port 1 and 2. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- sid128 Actually I seem to recall a few weeks ago when they released the change list for rev. 6 and 7 then initially for rev. 7 it said something like ‘add your own games/files to the carrousel’ (but still via location on the usb of course). At first this sounded a bit wicked to me that you could do this yourself (i.e. add to the carrousel directly) but thinking it over it actually sounded quite cool - getting the original cover scans (e.g from Lemon 64 or similar) and then add games and cover scans to carrousel. Very cool indeed IMHO. Unfortunately this particular feature has now had it’s wording changed in rev. 7 - but still very cool of course to have an updated loader functionality in rev. 7 although MAYBE no directly into the carrousel as such... [2]:) -------------------------------------------------------------------------- RetroBiker [3]sid128 It definitely said something about being able to add your own artwork which suggested being able to add to the carousel. Hopefully, this is still coming in a future release. I guess it's a question of priorities. The fixes in 1.0.6 must have been planned quite a while ago. They clearly realise that the current file loader is not ideal and have said they have been working on a new version for some time. I suspect they just want to get those changes out there on their own to improve the existing features before adding completely new functionality. It makes sense to keep things as stable as possible and gives them more time to get the interface ok when adding extra items to the carousel. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- sid128 [4]RetroBiker Makes good sense! Looking forward to this feature may come in some later revision. For now a simpler but better loader would be fine in itself. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Goclastninja Im kinda hoping the next update will enable the mini to give me a reach around...[5]😫 -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Jammet Going back to easy to implement features: Easy quick hiding of games in the carousel you don't play. Uchi Mata isn't for me. And starring games you enjoy the most. Maybe even some I added myself, eventually. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- adgloride [6]Jammet I think unchi mata was one of the worst games ever released and isn’t for most people. I’ve never beat the opponent in the past or now in the present even once. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- MIK I know you can turn it off but I'd like the menu music changed as the tune sounds depressing! A tune like the one your greeted with when using the Power Play Rick Dangerous Cartridge would be better as that sort of captures that old skool magic. You just want one that you can listen too for ages while just gazing at the screen doing nothing - that's the power of what a good SID tune can do! -------------------------------------------------------------------------- trolliewallied [7]MIK I think the "Ocean Loader" music would be a nice retro-touch for the carousel menu music, but I guess they don't have the rights as I don't recall any Ocean games as part of the C64 mini package. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- MIK [8]trolliewallied Ocean Loader IV, (Robocop) for me. But yeah, what we have now for the menu music sounds to me like death warmed up, almost as if the machine wishes it wasn't switched on if you get my meaning. [9];) -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Parcival [10]MIK Ocean Loader IV, Just listened to these on YT and yes, totally agree with this: [11]IFrame -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Parcival if it could play a random tune on the menu from even just a few games (Commando, Thing on a Spring, Rambo, Shadowfire) that would be awesome. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- scottyhp [12]Parcival I'm getting pretty fired up now .. lol -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Darbyram [13]Parcival The hair's on the back of neck just stood up listening to that. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Goclastninja Man that ocean loader music is frickin awesome -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Parcival Yes, there is some cracking music for sure . When the C64 came out and there was the 'Speccy V C64' arguments going on, all you had to do was play a great C64 tune and they would walk off in a huff [14]:D -------------------------------------------------------------------------- adgloride A decent joystick, gamepads don’t have the same retro appeal. Maybe being able to use a competition pro or the releasing one with the 8 buttons on. Releasing a working little keyboard to replace the none working one. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Jammet I thought this was supposed to be a realistic wishlist. [15];) -------------------------------------------------------------------------- saramakos I would add a really simple request - (optional) drive noise emulation while loading/saving in the BASIC screen so I know when it is accessing the drive, similar to what most other emulators provide. It just doesn't feel like a retro system without that sound! -------------------------------------------------------------------------- [16]Next Page » References Visible links 1. https://community.thec64.com/ 3. https://community.thec64.com/d/238/3 4. https://community.thec64.com/d/238/4 6. https://community.thec64.com/d/238/7 7. https://community.thec64.com/d/238/8 8. https://community.thec64.com/d/238/9 10. https://community.thec64.com/d/238/10 11. https://www.youtube.com/embed/c7zv0bCJg_E?start=649 12. https://community.thec64.com/d/238/12 13. https://community.thec64.com/d/238/12 16. https://community.thec64.com/d/238?page=2&id=238-realistic-wish-list [1]The C64 Community Loading... This site is best viewed in a modern browser with JavaScript enabled. Realistic wish list Jammet +1 for drive sound emulation. I really enjoy VICE doing that. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Darbyram [2]Jammet I want the slow loading times included, start loading...watch a soap opera and its just started the game and then crash...repeat...lol -------------------------------------------------------------------------- walnutwhip a way to remap buttons on 3rd party controllers. more supported 3rd party controllers. file browser. add games to carousel. enable/disable loading sound/emulation. some games and demos had music/animations whilst loading. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- sid128 sorry, but just going briefly back to the ‘wish list of tunes’... (I know, somewhat off topic..) Sanxion!! (especially the loader..) Killer! -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Gab75 The support for the .G64 files (a raw GCR binary representation of a C64 floppy disk) would be a great addition... [3];) -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Parcival [4]Gab75 The support for the .G64 files (a raw GCR binary representation of a C64 floppy disk) would be a great addition... [5];) Yes, most of my collection is in this format, it also includes any copy protection from the original disc in a lot of cases. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- rgvirdis option to turn off/on the carousel music in the preferences in order to keep the choice after restart -------------------------------------------------------------------------- synchromesh [6]rgvirdis option to turn off/on the carousel music in the preferences in order to keep the choice after restart Option to change it as well ..It does get on your nerves after a while if I'm honest .. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Gab75 [7]@Parcival Yes, fundamentally the G64s are full copy of the original C64 floppy disks (protection clusters/tracks included). -------------------------------------------------------------------------- saramakos [8]synchromesh Would be even more amazing if we could upload our on .sid files to play as background music. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- duckduckduck I'd like to second (or third) the ability to hide games in the carousel. I'd also them kick a survey out around how many people would be willing to pay for a better joystick if one was developed. I'd certainly shell out for one (or two). -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Gurce Yep, I'm liking a lot of the ideas mentioned. I bought a Microsoft 850 wireless keyboard today after reading that Retrobiker reported that it worked fine. Yep, it was fine, and it was a wonderful feeling to play Monty on the Run while sprawled on my sofa, playing wirelessly via the keyboard controls, a surreal experience, hehehe... It sure made me crave more of this 'wireless' experience with other games, so right now, alongside with having the disk selector, I'd love the ability to have the joystick mapped to keyboard keys so that any game in the carousel can be played via a wireless keyboard [9]:) I tried searching the forum for anybody that got a wireless game controller to work, but I don't think anybody has yet, so that's another itch I have, for at least one brand of wireless game controller to be supported. But for now, I'd be happy to have the quick compromise and just be able to navigate the carousel, play any game and exit a game via a wireless keyboard [10]:) -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Darbyram Maybe games in the Zip format. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- walnutwhip yeah zip is good. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Gab75 In addition to the "joystick port selector" another important improvement could be the possibility to customize the joystick buttons. In some games this option/function would be very useful... an example can be done with "Turbo Out Run", to activate the turbo the player must press the spacebar, without a "buttons customization function", everytime to activate the turbo you should pause the game and open the virtual keyboard ! -------------------------------------------------------------------------- MIK [11]Gab75 As I'm sure you know, a USB keyboard can by-pass most things that you might need from the virtual keyboard when playing games. Things like pressing the Space Bar can all be done in real time then. BTW I used to play Turbo Outrun with the keyboard near the floor, I would use my foot for the Turbo leaving both my hands to do the driving. [12]B) -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Gab75 [13]MIK Yes, I know... [14]:) but, in any case, an option that allows to map the joystick buttons would be very useful (maybe as a sub-menu in the "in-game menu" ! [15];) PS: to use the keyboard as a "pedal" turbo boost is genius ! [16]:P [17]:) -------------------------------------------------------------------------- MIK [18]Gab75 Just make sure you have clean socks on if using the space bar as a pedal. [19];) -------------------------------------------------------------------------- JohnnyG 1) Update the game descriptions to include if the joystick buttons have been mapped to anything. e.g. when needing to Start So you can quickly remind yourself before starting a game 2) Integrate a DB9 port into the joystick so it acts like a DB9 to USB adapter. Solves the 8 button problem and you don't need to provide support for the third party adapters. 3) Firmware updates to include additional games. (in order of my preference... (Lode Runner, Montezumas Revenge, Fort Apocalypse, Head over Heels, Ghosts and Goblins, Gauntet, Zaxxon) -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Gab75 [20]MIK Just make sure you have clean socks on if using the space bar as a pedal. [21];) but above all... avoid to use the combat boots! [22]:P -------------------------------------------------------------------------- spinal I'd like to see Arduino joystick working, this would be great for extra joysticks and potentially keyboards. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- [23]« Previous Page [24]Next Page » References Visible links 1. https://community.thec64.com/ 2. https://community.thec64.com/d/238/21 4. https://community.thec64.com/d/238/25 6. https://community.thec64.com/d/238/26 7. https://community.thec64.com/u/Parcival 8. https://community.thec64.com/d/238/29 11. https://community.thec64.com/d/238/35 13. https://community.thec64.com/d/238/36 18. https://community.thec64.com/d/238/37 20. https://community.thec64.com/d/238/39 23. https://community.thec64.com/d/238?page=1&id=238-realistic-wish-list 24. https://community.thec64.com/d/238?page=3&id=238-realistic-wish-list [1]The C64 Community Loading... [3];) but above all... avoid to use the combat boots! [4]:P -------------------------------------------------------------------------- MIK [5]Gab75 Yeah, they must be removed if playing Microprose's Airbourne Ranger with the full kit on as you could leave mud on the machine! [6]:D -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Gurce One request I have is as follows. If the underlying emulator has cartridge support, could a quick, temporary way be added of using it? E.g. test if a "TheC64.crt" file exists on the USB stick. If so, then when we enter our next basic session, just boot straight to the cartridge image? I just mean for this to be a temporary/quick workaround way, up until you have a menu system that can provide such mechanisms. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Gurce Oh maybe another thing, as the community seems to be enjoying the quirk of jumping into a carousel game first before entering basic and getting rewarded with a fast loader + d81 support, any chance of assuring that this quirk remains in future firmware updates, up until there is a menu system in place to let the user select such features? I just worry about the possibility of a future update accidentally removing this quirk, and then people in the community getting upset about losing it due to an irreversible firmware update. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- TheDead Button remapping is a big one for me, one a lot of emulators I tend to swap up with one of the buttons for easy jumping. Also controls listed on the carousel would be great. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- spinal 50% scale 1541 drive as an SD card reader! -------------------------------------------------------------------------- bobele [7]spinal Instabuy... -------------------------------------------------------------------------- SYS4096 [8]spinal How about 50% scale 1541 drive as USB Hub & SD card reader? -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Gab75 [9]SYS4096 ow about 50% scale 1541 drive as USB Hub & SD card reader? It would be an interesting optional device but, maybe, a "little too" cumbersome! [10]:P -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Jammet [11]SYS4096 That is the cutest thing I've read in days!
