C64 Mini scalpers all over Ebay Jammet And, as was to be expected, I'm not getting that C64 Mini that I pre-ordered way back in October of last year, on the first day the item became available in Amazon. Because, yes indeed, we have a NES or SNES mini Situation on our hands, all over again. Scalpers are selling it in droves on eBay for ludicrous prices. Scalpers bought them in bulk to make a massive profit from people stupid or desperate enough to pay double the price. I'm pissed. And god knows if I'll find one anywhere, now. I refuse to get this on eBay. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- RetroBiker [2]Jammet I just saw one on eBay at £120! It's outrageous, but inevitable. Amazon and Game are showing them still as next day delivery for £65 and you can walk into many Argos stores and walk out with one for £70. Hopefully people seeing these scammers will search and realise... -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Jammet They were supposed to be in Media Markt and Saturn stores in Germany as well. But I've been to all three of them in town. They don't have them. And nobody seemed to know what the thing even is. So I'm not even sure they had them in the first place, despite being listed as official outlets. Their respective online catalogs do not even list the Mini if you do a text search (except for an overpriced book on it). The only way I actually find it (Sold out) is by clicking on a direct web link I was keeping bookmarked. I'm not seeing many options here. ;( -------------------------------------------------------------------------- RetroBiker [3]Jammet I'm not seeing many options here. ;( Ah, sorry to hear that. Was referring to the UK market where they seem to be readily available. It is to be expected that Retro Games LTD would have been a little cautious at first with production numbers while gauging interest. I expect production will catch up with demand before long and make things easier elsewhere. Not a lot of help for you at the moment, I know. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- adgloride [4]Jammet if you can import one it runs off usb and you can change the screen setup. It’s ready to go for the rest of the world I’m supprised they haven’t pushed it more. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- MIK I bought 2 C64 mini's at 65 UK pounds just in case the stick broke before the spare came out... So yeah, there is one less out there than might of been other wise. [5];) -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Jammet I'll see about importing one, though at that point I'm basically taking it away from someone from a different area, which doesn't feel like a solution to bring smiles to faces all around. We'll see. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- RetroBiker [6]Jammet If you take it from someone who's going to try selling it on eBay for twice its value, then you're doing people a service... -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Jammet You mean a disservice, because I'd be supporting these scalpers. Encouraging them. I've got to find one that's not from there. Oh, I may have misinterpreted you there. Yeah, every legit sale is one they can't put on eBay. I fully intent on taking one they don't put on there. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- RetroBiker [7]Jammet Oh, I may have misinterpreted you there. Yeah, every legit sale is one they can't put on eBay. I fully intent on taking one they don't put on there. Yep, that's what I meant. I wasn't very clear - sorry. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Jammet No problem. And good news, too -- as I just received an email that Amazon is going to be sending me one, after all. It does conflict with their previous "Nu uh." one, but it comes with a tracking number, so I'm positive this is for real. Does still doesn't help everyone. eBay scalpers remain the same problem they always become. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- RetroBiker [8]Jammet Awesome! Glad to hear it. On the positive side, I guess you've been able to follow all the chat about TVs, setup, memory stick formatting, disk file naming, etc, to get you going quickly once it arrives. [9]😀 -------------------------------------------------------------------------- MIK Yeah nice one and enjoy once it arrives! -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Parcival [10]@Jammet Good news chap - will look forward to your views on it as you'll have read all the stuff on here before receiving it and read all the good/bad/ugly about it. You may even have a new firmware with USB file select to install from day 1 - you never know! -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Jammet A quick repeat check -- today alone, they are selling off 46 Minis on German eBay for a huge profit. Not counting the ones that were already sold today. So probably a lot more. Even some shops are doing it. Small video game shops, trying to make a quick buck. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- MIK [11]Jammet One thing about ebay.de though is that over the last few years I have noticed a lot of "By it Now" retro prices have almost doubled to what they might be in the UK. It's almost as if ebay.de is the driving force of retro prices these days. C64 Turrican 1 & 2 on tape are more expensive on ebay.de compared to the UK for example. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- RetroBiker Just did a quick search on UK eBay. Strewth! There are a few going for £37, £41, £51, a few around the normal retail price (£65-70) and many far over priced. One saying it's from Greece at £150!! One is saying £86.50 from Germany with £139.79 postage!!!!! -------------------------------------------------------------------------- AndyF Yup - just seen one on Ebay for £105 ! I really hope people look around before being fleeced ..... -------------------------------------------------------------------------- synchromesh [12]W12MODS the mini is absolutely unplayable with the joystick provided. Well Il tell you what ... You have easily got your moneys worth playing " Post as many times as you can about the joystick " Some would say the Mini has kept you entertained you more than most over this last week [13]:) -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Jammet Turrican might be a bit of a special case, because the franchise is extremely popular in Germany, because it was one of the (very) few games that gained world fame, and was written by a German game designer, back when. Turrican 2 on the Amiga ever more so, because the Soundtrack was made by Chris Huelsbeck. I know it sounds petty, but I think people not only enjoy the game, but are proud it's "local". [14]:) The German video game industry never got far off the ground. But yeah, it's an interesting comparison. Let's hope the Mini production keeps up with demand. That is probably the only way to go, with these scalpers. I've got mine with the post today, and I love the thing. I just grabbed mine from JBHIFI ([2]🇦🇺Bestbuy) It will go next to theMini Nes & Mini Snes. I had a Commodore Vic 20 and C64 Amiga etc back in the day. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- MIK [3]OG1-KENOBI They never made enough of the NES mini which keeps prices high, also the amount of games and quality of them makes it a winner! One thing is that the control pad cord is short, you can get extension leads though. With the SNES mini they may of over made it as most places in the UK that sell them still have new ones. The emulation is no better than that of the 3DS. Super Ghouls'n Ghosts suffers with slow down when things get busy on the SNES mini as it does on 3DS, unlike the real game running on the real iron which scrolls fine. There is also a ZX Specturm Vega out there which uses Composhite video only. It also comes with enough video, power & controller lead that you can play it downstairs while it's connected to a TV upstairs! -------------------------------------------------------------------------- walnutwhip i dont know why theyre bothering to scalp the mini. its available from most places. maybe they thought it wasnt going to be because amazon uk stock was late. but theyre outta luck this time. XD -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Darbyram [4]walnutwhip They are in it for the quick buck, and tbh there are people out there foolish to pay it. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- AndyF [5]walnutwhip amazon uk stock was late? I got mine from them on day of release -------------------------------------------------------------------------- RetroBiker [6]walnutwhip i dont know why theyre bothering to scalp the mini. its available from most places. It's readily available in the UK, yes. RGL are currently working on releasing for the rest of the world. I guess the scammers are counting on people in other countries wanting one badly enough and not realising how much they will be available for. And there are always people who don't know how to price match and search for deals. A lot of people equate eBay with cheap bargains and just assume stuff on their is a good deal. They become victims for these scammers. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- walnutwhip [7]AndyF just before the release date, amazon uk had the machine as unavailable. shortly before release, and definitely on the day of release that changed to them having stock avail. maybe scalpers thought...'hey. this machine isnt going to be available day 1. lets flog it on ebay for 3grand' they were mistaken. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Jammet All official german outlets list them as out of stock, and have been since day one. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- MIK [8]Jammet My boxes are upstairs put away and family asleep to measure properly at the moment..., the length of the box is about as wide as a laptop if not a little longer. Anyone fancy taking as guess as to how many machines? If there are 6 machines to a box, 12 boxes to a pallet, 9 pallets to a row x 5 rows = 3240 machines. No way, must be more than that!! They are not full size pallets btw, more euro size so smaller and why my lame guess is small... Taken from the topic: THEC64 Update 9th March 2018 #2 [9]enter image description here -------------------------------------------------------------------------- synchromesh I thought they were originaly going to have a store so they could be purchased here directly .. Pity .. Everyone would have known eventually you could get it from the source at the real retail price. It wouldn't eliminate the scams completely but would have helped .. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- [10]« Previous Page References Visible links 1. https://community.thec64.com/ 3. https://community.thec64.com/d/231/23 4. https://community.thec64.com/d/231/25 5. https://community.thec64.com/d/231/25 6. https://community.thec64.com/d/231/25 7. https://community.thec64.com/d/231/27 8. https://community.thec64.com/d/231/29 10. https://community.thec64.com/d/231?page=1&id=231-c64-mini-scalpers-all-over-ebay
