Joysticks/Pads that work on the C64 mini adgloride I thought it maybe a good idea for everyone to post the joysticks or pads that have succeeded or failed to work. Hopefully in a firmware update they could be added. First of all the ones I got working  1. Official PS3 controller connected to the USB port with lead.  2. Official PS4 controller connected with lead. The ones that didn’t work.  1. Xbox one and 360 controllers  2. Sidewinder gamepad  3. Logitech game pad  4. COMPETITION PRO USB The Sony joysticks also allow you to open the menu for the keyboard, saves and exit. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- spannernick1 [2]adgloride what this one don't work...?? [3]Competition Pro -------------------------------------------------------------------------- MIK Failed: Classic XBOX pad (2001-2006) via GAME branded USB adapter. Logic 3, 3 in 1 arcade stick which does PC via USB, PS2 & Classic XBOX. Home Brew USB adapter from early 2000's with Cheetah 125+ joystick and Sega Megadrive pad. Sort of worked: PS4 pad with 2.4amp plug on mini. After a short while UP started to be intermittent and eventually stopped working when playing Ikari Warriors. I gave up using it. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- thash1zn1t I tried the USB to DB9 adaptor by retrofun! with a zipstick and it didn't work at all. the adaptor led lit up but no movement or buttons worked. I checked that the adaptor was working in windows before attempting, also tried it connected before thec64 powered up and after and before and after games start.... -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Makrotulpa Curious people are having success with the PS4 Dualshocks. Mine works for movement but the Options button, which defaults to Menu on the C64 MINI, multi-spams clicks all the time making it impossible to navigate the save menu. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- synchromesh [4]W12MODS The C64 Mini joystick doesn't work with most games using pads with the C64 and fucking complain to retro games. If I were you I would send it back if your not happy ...using language like that with younger users around is likely to get you banned anyway .. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Gurce I'm starting to wonder with the PS3+PS4 controllers, how some people reported intermittent problems, could it be due to the recharge circuitry within the unit kicking in from time to time? I'm guessing they've got some logic that tests for a certain battery-level threshold, and if it's lower than the threshold, the recharging begins. Just a wild guess on my part. I tried my PS3 controller last weekend, no luck there, but after hearing of your successes, I'm starting to think it's because I didn't press that big chunky circular button in the middle to turn the darn thing on! [5]:) -------------------------------------------------------------------------- JohnnyG [6]Gurce could it be due to the recharge circuitry within the unit kicking in from time to time? Stupid me. I didn't realise the PS3 controllers could be used wired - I thought the usb was for charging only? (we have my nephews old PS3 at home but I have never used it) -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Gurce [7]JohnnyG Hehe no worries, it didn't really dawn on me either until we had a few ppl in here reporting the PS3 controllers worked. I'll have to re-visit my PS3 controllers this weekend and give them another try... -------------------------------------------------------------------------- AndyF Failed: Thrustmaster USB -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Scorf Strongly recommend the PS2 pad with a USB adapter. Total cost of £15 Works very well. Was playing the javelin in summer games 2 last night for 90 mins... I found the PS3 to be erratic. When playing paradroid the stick would suddenly become unresponsive when moving to the right. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- RetroBiker [8]Scorf unresponsive when moving to the right What about when it jumped to the left? [9]🙄[10]😂 -------------------------------------------------------------------------- jamesds Tried an 8bitdo pad (FC30, but I imagine they're all the same) and couldn't get that working. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- lroby74 I am using a Lioncast joystick arcade, this one has 2 different plugs, you can use USB if playing only alone or can use PSX Plug of same joystick if used with a PSX Gamepad splitter that permit to choose if use port 1 or port 2 on games [11]:) (and permit to connect 2 joystick together) -------------------------------------------------------------------------- RetroC64Dave I just bought a INNEXT Game Controller as I heard other's say it's a great pad that works really well with the C64 Mini, and it does, well happy with the pad, myself. Been playing Monty On the Run with it, love that game. [12]IFrame -------------------------------------------------------------------------- RetroBiker [13]spannernick1 It would need 8 buttons according to the documentation... -------------------------------------------------------------------------- adgloride [14]spannernick1 that has built in game so it’s for plugging straight into your tv not the mini. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- synchromesh [15]adgloride that has built in game so it’s for plugging straight into your tv not the mini Not this one ... you get a CD and emulator ... its a USB stick but hasn't been available for a while -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Streuti I tried getting the Competition Pro USB SL-6603-SBK to work, but it won't. And I am not able to peek the "The C64 - Joystick" on port 56321. Which one of the USB ports is port 56320 and which is 56321? I am confused. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- RetroBiker [16]Streuti Which one of the USB ports is port 56320 and which is 56321? I am confused. 56320 is port 2 and 56321 is port 1 ([17]http://sta.c64.org/cbm64mem.html) [18]Streuti I tried getting the Competition Pro USB SL-6603-SBK to work, but it won't. The Mini checks that the device has 8 buttons available... -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Streuti [19]RetroBiker Thank you for your answer. But I feel misunderstood. I mean, if there is just one Joystick plugged in, it always has the address 56320, no matter, in which USB it's plugged in. If I want to play a game which is looking for 56321 and there isn't plugged in a second Joystick, i am not able to play it, is this correct? Try for example Decathlon. That means some games just can be played, if there is plugged in a second Joystick, because I'm not able to allocate 56320 or 56321 if there is plugged in just one Joystick. Couldn't you program static allocation of the joystick ports in the firmware? thx -------------------------------------------------------------------------- [20]Next Page » References Visible links 1. https://community.thec64.com/ 2. https://community.thec64.com/d/229/1 4. https://community.thec64.com/d/229/5 6. https://community.thec64.com/d/229/7 7. https://community.thec64.com/d/229/8 8. https://community.thec64.com/d/229/11 12. https://ws-eu.amazon-adsystem.com/widgets/q?ServiceVersion=20070822&OneJS=1&Operation=GetAdHtml&MarketPlace=GB&ad_type=product_link&tracking_id=_&marketplace=amazon®ion=GB&asins=B01EA7MVUU&show_border=true&link_opens_in_new_window=true 13. https://community.thec64.com/d/229/16 14. https://community.thec64.com/d/229/16 15. https://community.thec64.com/d/229/18 16. https://community.thec64.com/d/229/20 17. http://sta.c64.org/cbm64mem.html 18. https://community.thec64.com/d/229/20 19. https://community.thec64.com/d/229/21 20. https://community.thec64.com/d/229?page=2&id=229-joysticks-pads-that-work-on-the-c64-mini [1]The C64 Community Loading... Ah, sorry. Yes, the firmware currently assumes that a single controller plugged in is in port 2. You have a few options available... If you have two controllers, then you can plug them both in while in the carousel and one will be recognised as port 1 and the other port 2. You will then be able to interact with any software. If you are skilled enough, you can extract the PRG file from the disk image on your computer, edit it to access port 2 instead of port 1, rebuild the disk image and run that. There are a few people about who have already done this patching for some games who might be able to help. (Search for references to Vinny on the forum who seems to be an amazingly helpful person in this area.) Wait for a future firmware update. I understand that there is the intention to enable the selection of which port a single joystick is located on. I can't guarantee this as I only have a vague memory of seeing it somewhere. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Bendz Better support for alternative USB controllers is a must I think. I still use 80s style joysticks on both a breadbin C64 and a variety of other 8 bit computers and they are all better than the one packaged with the Mini. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Streuti I agree ... when retro, then 100% retro. I hope the 1- or 2-button Joysticks will be given a chance for a real 80s feeling. I never was a friend of too much joystick-buttons. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- MossFett1973 Generic PS2 style Speedlink pad works well without issue. [4][IMG] -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Makrotulpa Inspired by [5]MossFett1973 I picked up the "Marvo Scorpion GT-006" for $10 from U-Mart in Australia and it seems to work fine as well. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Trebor34 [6]MossFett1973 MossFett1973 directional buttons ok for this????? -------------------------------------------------------------------------- MossFett1973 [7]Trebor34 yes spot on [8]😀 -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Gurce Just thought I'd draft out an idea of pooling all these experiences into a tabled format via a draft wiki here: [9]http://gurce.net/c64mini It's just a draft effort mind you, I don't mind hosting it myself for now, but if someone thinks there's a better home for this later on, I'm ok with that too. It's a dokuwiki, so all the data is saved in raw text format, no databases, so it should be fairly easy to zip it all up, and pass it onto someone else that wants to host it elsewhere. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- [10]« Previous Page References Visible links 1. https://community.thec64.com/ 2. https://community.thec64.com/d/229/21 3. https://community.thec64.com/d/229/22 4. https://postimg.org/image/hg1vd9ml1/ 5. https://community.thec64.com/d/229/27 6. https://community.thec64.com/d/229/27 7. https://community.thec64.com/d/229/29 9. http://gurce.net/c64mini 10. https://community.thec64.com/d/229?page=1&id=229-joysticks-pads-that-work-on-the-c64-mini
