Is it just me... chrisa1981 ...after 5 days of C64 mini ownership, is anyone else thinking of just trading the mini in and getting a proper "old" 64 from ebay? i dont think this is any issue with the mini (even tho the joystick/non keyboard arent ideal) but just feel its just not quite the same... -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Darbyram [2]chrisa1981 Already have an old C64 myself...just hang on in there and lets see what happens. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- saramakos Or alternatively keeping the mini for one room and a real C64 for another [3]:) Already tried sourcing one! -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Scorf I wouldn't trust the internal components and the power brick of a real 64 nowadays. Realistically as well, the cost of the mini is sufficiently low that if I don't use it again after a couple of weeks of walking down memory. lane then it doesn't matter. I wouldn't want to spend much more money on top. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- JohnnyG Not really... I don't really miss the slow loading. (unless I had all my games on an sd card with one of those sd readers which go in the cartridge slot.) I am a bit sad I threw it out plus all the peripherals many years ago... I wish I had my 1342 joysticks back... -------------------------------------------------------------------------- adgloride I have an original C64. The power supply on them is dodgy with them being 30+ years old. If it goes it can go from 5v to 9v and fry your ram chips. You will have to buy a modern power supply. I have a scart lead to improve picture quality. You still have the faint lines on the screen so I fitted lumafix in the C64 to get rid of them. The picture is better but not as good as hdmi on the mini. If you want to load games quick you can buy the sd2ide drive which uses an SD card to store games. If you want to load them quicker you have to buy a fast loader cartridge. With the age of the components in the C64 and the colour of the case yellowing because of age. Is it really worth it? -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Scorf Very good point re the video output. You just can’t beat HDMI for a crisp and clear picture. One of the reasons I didn’t use the “64 in a joystick” much was that the composite video output was so poor. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- spannernick1 I have a C64 allready,I got this cause my C64 collection is to big to move from my bedroom to my living room,I call it TheC64 Mini's big brother.. [4]:D I do have a Save64 for it so it saves my C64 from if my power supply goes bad,the 5v line,9v AC is ok... [5]:) and the C64 can run on 5V cause you have 2 connectors on the Save64,one 5v and the other 9v ac,you just can't use the timer or the user port, the user port is powered by the 9v ac,any games that use the timer don't work like Beach Head. I use S-Video with mine,Its a lot better than composite.. [6]:D -------------------------------------------------------------------------- chrisa1981 something im just finding unappealing about the mini is the joystick, the lack of a keyboard and seemingly a lack of support with many reports of different keyboards, joysticks, memory sticks not working properly. I cant find my receipt but im tempted to bundle the mini onto ebay for £50 and get a real one where I can gradually collect the games up and turn it into a real hobby rather than just have them now -------------------------------------------------------------------------- AndyF Seems now is the time to let go of some of my original C64 collection .... I have several units, four 1541 drives, five datasets and shed load of games.... I was hoping to add a printer to the setup, but they deemed too expensive on Ebay. I really only need one working original for myself - the rest are now taking up space, so I think reluctantly, I'll ebay them over the next few weeks (when I get round to it) -------------------------------------------------------------------------- chrisa1981 [7]AndyF let me know - definitely interested in something -------------------------------------------------------------------------- AndyF [8]chrisa1981 Absolutely .... wont be for a while yet, but I'll make a note. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- References Visible links 1. https://community.thec64.com/ 2. https://community.thec64.com/d/228/1 7. https://community.thec64.com/d/228/10 8. https://community.thec64.com/d/228/11
