Fast Loaders Killamarshian You can use fast loaders to put a menu on a .d64 image and allow you to pick a game and load it at turbo speed. Just use www.d64editor.com/ to make a new .d64 image and place the loader at the top of the BAM (disk list). Import your other programs below it. You can then type LOAD "*",8,1 then RUN to load the menu and choose program. The Action Replay V3.0 loader works perfectly. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Braindome [2]Killamarshian I'm not sure where the benefit is? If you start any game from the carousel, it seems to install a fast loader. Then if you exit the game, and load a new game from Basic, it loads in just a couple of seconds. If you then save it to one of your save slots, you can always reload it almost instantly. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Darbyram Cheers this works a treat.. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Killamarshian [3]Braindome I didn't know that the games would load faster after I had played one from the carousel. The menu structure still works a treat with my method, you don't have to type full filenames with my method. We are all learning at the moment, all input is good input, thanks for the advice Braindome. Here is the link to a blank disk with just the loader if anyone is interested. [4]https://1drv.ms/u/s!AhQC2vqh0TefgZwD3fnI6rUvuPnC-Q -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Darbyram [5]like this -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Darbyram [6]Killamarshian Its just a pity the disk size is so small ;-( -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Braindome [7]Killamarshian ok I didn't realise you can get more than one game on a disc. That's a real benefit. Thanks. I'm enjoying how we're all working together to improve this experience. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Killamarshian [8]Darbyram I can get about 3 to 4 games on a disc. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Darbyram [9]Killamarshian Yeah same here. depends on the file size. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Scorf I remember when turbo loaders first came in for tapes. I think Revenge of the Mutant Camels was the first one - IIRC it had turbo on one side of the tape and normal on the other. Then of course we had the colourful fizzy lines of Pavloada followed by the jaw dropping Novaload - first saw this on Daley Thompsons Decathlon - couldn't believe a 64 game had a loading screen and music!! I remember waiting 20 minutes plus for Football Manager and games like the Hobbit to load... -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Killamarshian [10]Scorf The first game ever loaded on a C64 was Daley Thompson's Decathlon. I was blown away by the music as it loaded. However, what really impressed me was the stability of the image. I had come from a ZX Spectrum which had very poor image quality. I actually touched the screen of my TV it was so solid. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Killamarshian [11]IFrame A quick demo of how using a fast loader makes things easier. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Parcival What I have is one of my save slots to have Load"*",8,1 already typed out. I'm so lazy! Would be good if I could find a way to hide the .prg files for mulit-file titles so they don't show up in the loader menu as shown below: -------------------------------------------------------------------------- PantherUK This fastloader has caused an interesting hiccup for me... I've been testing the SID emulation with different games and demos and loaded one of the sides of the disc of the ultimate Martin Galway collection... If I load it via basic first after a power on it loads fine, if I load it after first playing a game from the carousel it just throws up a flickering Ready... Repeated this a few times and have had the same results with both sides... Its interesting for sure, and I'm having fun finding all this stuff out... -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Killamarshian [12]PantherUK I have The Bogg Album if anyone is interested, -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Parcival What I have is one of my save slots to have Load"*",8,1 already typed out. I'm so lazy! Would be good if I could find a way to hide the .prg files for mulit-file titles so they don't show up in the loader menu as shown below: [13][IMG] -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Darbyram What we need is a loader that reads a directory on the usb with loads of games in it.. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Parcival [14]@Darbyram We'll get that as part of the firmware update soon (I Hope). Would be nice to have the fast loader as part of that firmware, although that may be asking too much. More Joystick compatibility and USB file loading would be a great start though! -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Darbyram [15]Parcival I agree, adding games to the carousel would be nice too. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- sid128 Works perfect. Thanks for sharing. Fast loader and multiple games in one D64 file is indeed very nice! -------------------------------------------------------------------------- [16]Next Page » References Visible links 1. https://community.thec64.com/ 2. https://community.thec64.com/d/177/1 3. https://community.thec64.com/d/177/3 4. https://1drv.ms/u/s!AhQC2vqh0TefgZwD3fnI6rUvuPnC-Q 6. https://community.thec64.com/d/177/6 7. https://community.thec64.com/d/177/6 8. https://community.thec64.com/d/177/7 9. https://community.thec64.com/d/177/8 10. https://community.thec64.com/d/177/11 11. https://www.youtube.com/embed/TPncKXxHYbI 12. https://community.thec64.com/d/177/15 13. https://ibb.co/fvFKh7 14. https://community.thec64.com/u/Darbyram 15. https://community.thec64.com/d/177/19 16. https://community.thec64.com/d/177?page=2&id=177-fast-loaders [1]The C64 Community Loading... This site is best viewed in a modern browser with JavaScript enabled. Fast Loaders Darbyram [2]W12MODS I very much doubt they have, but who knows, a customizable carousel would be even better -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Darbyram [3]W12MODS they can add or change whatever they want. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Jammet I'm probably being one of the very few people who does not mind the slow loading speeds on the disk too much. It is more vital to me that the floppy drives are emulated as accurately as possible. I will then still use speedloaders, might not. This should work with as many disk protection schemes as possible. The thing is, I want to solve the problem of loading speeds with what the actual C64 part may make possible, not the host system so much. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- spannernick1 They need to make the usb to read like a SD2IEC device, and a buttion to type LOAD"*",8,1 for you like EPYX Fastload cart. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- spannernick1 Oh and be able to change the kernal of the C64 too, that would be a good idea,if that can be done. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- adgloride They could add a fast loader option as well as the basic option. When loading from usb the games load so slow. Not sure about what is copyrighted. An action replay fastloader would be nice. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Braindome [4]adgloride If you start another game from the carousel before starting BASIC, it seems to install a fast loader. USB games load really quickly afterwards. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- adgloride [5]Braindome I’ve found that it works. But for the action replay backups you need to first load a loader program. This works with the fastload but the games won’t load. It’s the action replay v6 loader I was trying with it. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- didier110 Does anyone has a tutorial ? I cannot add games to the loader, it says too big.
