I adore the reproduction in a smaller scale of the "big cookie" (the first C64 version) ! [2]:P From what I saw, the interface it's well made (good to look and easy to use), the only "small bug" that I found it's some occasional intermittent audio break in the menu (not commonly observed). In any case, if I understood well, this issue should be solved in the upcoming firmware update. I have two questions: 1) the bundled joystick it's pretty unconfortable, in the upcoming accessories is it planned an alternative (more suitable) joypad? 2) For the next firmware releases can we hope to see new games added to the carousel? (I keep my fingers crossed for Buggy Boy! [3];) ) -------------------------------------------------------------------------- module180 [4]Gab75 Hi there, there is an alternative joystick/controller that I am using, the Retrolink branded Sega Megadrive USB style controller. The controller works a treat :-) All buttons and the dpad are mapped, even the mode button on the top right side of the controller works to load save states, when did that button ever work on the Sega..?? Regards from module180 -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Chickje If you're having issues with crashing, bad response times or slow performance, make sure to try a more powerful power adaptor. Over 2A should work! -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Gab75 I'm using a standard USB charger 5V/1A (as recommended on the box) and all seems to work properly (no crashing/freezing, no bad response times or emulation slowdowns), the only issue, as I wrote in my previous post, it's some occasional intermittent audio break (it happens rarely and only for a split second), probably it's related with the software revision (my "theC64mini" has the early firmware 1.0.0)... I like much this new "mini" retro-console, in my opinion the only "real issue" is the joystick... too unconfortable! -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Gab75 [5]module180 Hi module180, thanks for the tip! [6]:) Obviously a dedicated joypad would be the best solution, but your alternative seems to be good... the joypad that you mentioned is it this one? [7]IFrame -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Scorf [8]module180 Have you a link to where it can be bought from - amazon don't seem to have it -------------------------------------------------------------------------- module180 [9]Gab75, You're welcome :-) I hope this controller can enhance your gaming experience on THEC64 Mini, just like it did for me. Yes that looks like the one i have, below is a link to where you can find one. [10]http://www.goldenshop.com/ai/products.php?90&sid=f2ec9f6b8d7e558ab76dbfb074c62b8a Also, by the way THEC64 Mini joystick works a treat on Raspberry Pi too! The Pi recognises it as THEC64 Mini Joystick so no extra work is required to get it to function correctly. Regards from module180 -------------------------------------------------------------------------- module180 [11]Scorf Hi there, here is a link where you may find the controller that i have. [12]http://www.goldenshop.com/ai/products.php?90&sid=f2ec9f6b8d7e558ab76dbfb074c62b8a Regards from module180 :-) -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Gab75 [13]module180 Thanks for the link! [14]:) -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Parcival [15]This one looks very similar for £10.90 delivered from Amazon. Might be worth a punt for those that want to try it. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- module180 [16]Parcival The controller is very similar to one i have, however it is a Sega Saturn Style controller and i can not confirm if it is indeed working, as i don't own this type. I only have the Megadrive style controller, and i can definitely confirm that it does work very well, a marked improvement in gameplay over THEC64 Joystick . I am planning on buying the Retrolink Sega Saturn type, and the SNES type for my Raspberry Pi, so here's hoping they will also be fully compatible with TheC64 mini too :-) Regards from module180 P.S This is the exact style of controller i am using. Once I find a better quality stick to use I'll be happy but I'll have to keep using the supplied one until then. I'm getting on with it OK as such and seem to be avoiding the issues most have on here. [19]@Chickje You've got that exact one in my link, not one that just looks like it? These things tend to be wired differently is all. If you do have that exact one then that's good because it at least rules it out. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Chickje [20]Parcival Not the excact one. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- MIK [21]Parcival [22]Parcival [23]@Chickje You've got that exact one in my link, not one that just looks like it? These things tend to be wired differently is all. If you do have that exact one then that's good because it at least rules it out. Chickje may of been replying to this from 11 days ago. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Scorf I have to agree with Parcival - the attraction to me is playing games with a traditional joystick - I've always loathed the pad controllers introduced by the Japanese console makers. Suspect its a generational thing, but precision movement via a microswitched stick was always the way for me to play games. But - beggars can't be choosers and I might have to go for a pad if one can be found in the UK that works. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- SirGeldi SNES style gamepads seem to work (all buttons mapped). Although i have a problem with the Buffalo SNES USB pad (Japan import). It gives a Joystick left input from time to time in Menu wich makes you feel drunk without drinking. It did that in Retropie too but stopped for some reasons i don't know. So i might just try a cheaper SNES pad. But before i do that i wait for firmware updates and read the forums, -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Trebor34 [24]SirGeldi yep my buffalo one does the same. You can't fire on cybernoid 1 or 2. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Gab75 A modern version of an "Albatros Joystick" (an italian micro-switch joystick) would be a very good alternative! [25];) [26]http://poccyhouse.blogspot.it/2017/06/albatros-joystick.html -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Scorf Looks far to big and cumbersome to hold in your hand, which is what you need really to play 64 games - what they were designed for. I used Atari VCS sticks for years before getting a competition pro, which then broke and was replaced by one which had a triangular sized base - fantastic stick, with the reassuring click every time you moved it. Wish I still had it - seem to remember my parents finding it about 20 years ago and me saying it was fine to throw out... -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Parcival [27]Scorf Another lover of the Comp Pro here. Then I had a Konix Speedking and a Sun Com Slik Stick. Loved the old VCS stick which I constantly had to get replacement parts for the bit in the middle that just kept breaking. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Scorf Ok - good news I took delivery of this today [28]PS2 controller to USB Its a Playstation 2 to USB converter and is only £4.49 Just tried it with a generic PS2 controller that I bought a few weeks ago for a tenner and it worked perfectly - transfer game in paradroid works well (always a good test) -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Trebor34 [29]Scorf hi. Are the directional buttons ok with this? -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Scorf Nope - but I see no reason why it wouldn't work -------------------------------------------------------------------------- [30]Next Page » References Visible links 1. https://community.thec64.com/ 4. https://community.thec64.com/d/161/1 5. https://community.thec64.com/d/161/4 7. https://ws-na.amazon-adsystem.com/widgets/q?ServiceVersion=20070822&OneJS=1&Operation=GetAdHtml&MarketPlace=US&ad_type=product_link&tracking_id=_&marketplace=amazon®ion=US&asins=B0080M0C4O&show_border=true&link_opens_in_new_window=true 8. https://community.thec64.com/d/161/4 9. https://community.thec64.com/d/161/5 10. http://www.goldenshop.com/ai/products.php?90&sid=f2ec9f6b8d7e558ab76dbfb074c62b8a 11. https://community.thec64.com/d/161/6 12. http://www.goldenshop.com/ai/products.php?90&sid=f2ec9f6b8d7e558ab76dbfb074c62b8a 13. https://community.thec64.com/d/161/7 15. https://www.amazon.co.uk/Retro-Bit-PC-0387-Saturn-Wired-USB-Controller/dp/B002BFVAV0/ref=sr_1_14?ie=UTF8&qid=1522543059&sr=8-14&keywords=sega%20controller 16. https://community.thec64.com/d/161/9 17. https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/New-RetroLink-SEGA-Genesis-Style-6-Button-USB-Controller-for-PC-Mac/401156806802?epid=2254331648&hash=item5d66cf1892:g:26AAAOSwIgNXjpS3 18. https://community.thec64.com/d/161/11 19. https://community.thec64.com/u/Chickje 20. https://community.thec64.com/d/161/13 21. https://community.thec64.com/d/161/43 22. https://community.thec64.com/d/161/13 23. https://community.thec64.com/u/Chickje 24. https://community.thec64.com/d/161/15 26. http://poccyhouse.blogspot.it/2017/06/albatros-joystick.html 27. https://community.thec64.com/d/161/17 28. https://www.amazon.co.uk/OSTENT-Controller-Adapter-Converter-Compatible/dp/B00FBM3JEG/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1522670328&sr=8-1&keywords=OSTENT%20PS1%20PS2%20to%20PC%20USB%202.0%20Controller%20Adapter 29. https://community.thec64.com/d/161/19 30. https://community.thec64.com/d/161?page=2&id=161-alternative-joypad-and-new-games [1]The C64 Community Loading... Will it work is the question .. [6]IFrame -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Darbyram [7]synchromesh I made something similar, all good in menu's etc. but in games left and right don't quite work -------------------------------------------------------------------------- RetroBiker Cool. Those sort of kits look more suited to left-handers, though, I guess. Do people tend to use their dominant or err submissive(?) hand on a joystick. (Clean answers only, please!! [8]😳) -------------------------------------------------------------------------- synchromesh [9]RetroBiker Cool. Those sort of kits look more suited to left-handers, though You know that never occurred to me .. Normally I would hold a competition Pro in my right hand yet I own a Pandora box and seem quite happy and comfortable playing that as well ... Weird [10]Pandora Box -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Moz333 [11]RetroBiker Heres an interesting vid of why joysticks are on the left..Never really gave it a thought until i saw this... [12]IFrame -------------------------------------------------------------------------- MIK [13]Moz333 The arcade stick is like playing a Piano/Keyboard. The right is used for playing chords or a tune, dumb left is used for bass notes. If you know how to play a musical keyboard you are also aware more so that your right hand allows for maximum performance when it comes to pressing multiple buttons! [14]B) And before computing properly took off you could also argue the right and left handed war started with LCD Game & Watches. Nintendo used the left and Bandai used the right! Nintendo went on to bigger things as we all know... [15]enter image description here -------------------------------------------------------------------------- synchromesh So in reality all gaming Pads are left handed ...whether the owner realises it or not [16]:) -------------------------------------------------------------------------- RetroBiker Fascinating! Would be interesting to quantify how much of an effect that has. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- synchromesh To be honest I just always assumed single player arcade machines were right handed and two player were left handed .. Simply because 2 players so close to each other would get in each others way whilst controlling the joysticks ... There ya go [17]:) -------------------------------------------------------------------------- module180 [18]Gab75 You're welcome :-) -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Jammet I typically hold a joystick in-place with my left hand, and the right hand is on the the one making the stick move. The only reason this also worked in arcades for me, was the fact that the sticks are firmly held in place for me, and I don't have to hold it at all. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Chickje [19]Parcival Not the excact one. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Parcival [20]@Chickje Are you replying to a different thread? -------------------------------------------------------------------------- MIK [21]Parcival [22]Parcival [23]@Chickje You've got that exact one in my link, not one that just looks like it?
