Crashing (external game) + USB hub even when C64 is off? greywulfe  1. I loaded a few games to try out in BASIC, then saved the game so I could later retrieve them. But I've noticed some crashes. Bubble Bobble for instance crashes at some point during game play. However it is not random, it is whenever the character is killed. Not sure if c64 mini is meant to use in this way (8 bit guy review was the one that showed this feature off)  2. Even after the mini is shut off, the light on the USB hub is on, and the USB stick is still warm. Normal ? -------------------------------------------------------------------------- spannernick1 The only way the light would be on if its getting power from TheC64 Mini or it a powered USB Hub if so thats why the lights on,Mine is not powered and the lights on it is off when TheC64 Mini is off. The games could be crashing cause the games still need to access the D64 image of the game.,Like it needs to load the next level or something. The game would have to be one prg file in the d64 image to play without the image. So the whole game has to load into memory at the time of saving the game. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Parcival Yep, Power still runs through the USB ports when off. I would be using a powered hub for this thing really, rather then draw power off the C64 itself. You may find that also helps with the crashes. [2]@spannernick1 - I have created a D64 image with 3 files for one game (Spelunker) and it loads the levels fine. All the Spelunker files are .prg including the datafiles and originally came from a .D64 image. I have used a save-state and it loads and plays fine. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- spannernick1 [3]Parcival Mine has never crashed,I am going to try and save the game then remove my usb sd card and see if the game still works,The C64DTV works where it loads the whole game into memory from a PRG file. If you have just one PRG flie of a whole game, once you have load it into TheC64 Mini memory you can save it and should be able to run it again without the d64 image on the USB Stick. If you save a game in Vice it needs the d64 image so it can load the next bit into memory cause the C64 can only fit so much cause its only got 64k,so when it loads the next bit into memory it copies over what was in memory before.so if you want to have saved games on TheC64 Mini so you don't have to use the d64 image of the USB Stick all the time, look for games that use only one PRG file, there are games for the C64DTV that have one PRG file you can run, just put them in a d64 image then put them on the USB Stick and load then up and then save them and then remove the USB Stick and see TheC64 Mini will load the game without it.Just tested it with Up'n'Down Game prg file for the C64 DTV and it worked...[4]:D -------------------------------------------------------------------------- greywulfe I am still trying to recreate. Bubble Bobble crashed and it was only one file that was loaded. I then tried to load Bruce Lee 2, which had a lot of files. It crashed constantly (like within 10 seconds of starting). But then it worked last time. I think I am going to see if removing the hub has anything to do with it. I have a pretty hefty power supply. Also trying to figure out how to reset a saved game in basic back to basic. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- References Visible links 1. https://community.thec64.com/ 2. https://community.thec64.com/u/spannernick1 3. https://community.thec64.com/d/158/3
