(my list) Chickje There aren't a lot of joysticks that work with the C64 mini. I tried: - Xbox One controller (vibrates and lights go on, but no response) - PS4 Dualshock 4 (this works, but with mixed results. Sometimes it works for a few minutes and then I get stutter or it fails to respond. Both sticks work for control) PS3 Fighsticks (Madcatz) (Can't get these to work) PS4 Fightsticks (Hori) (No response, tried every mode) PC joypads (Can't get these to work) Anyone got some to add? -------------------------------------------------------------------------- module180 [2]Chickje I have a plethora of USB controllers, like most people do. Not many of the controllers work, some worked to varying degrees then some didn’t work at all. The controller/joystick that worked the best for me was the Retrolink branded USB style Sega Megadrive controller. All the buttons and the dpad were mapped, even the Mode button on the top right hand side was mapped to load save states, when has that button ever worked :-@ Regards from module180 -------------------------------------------------------------------------- steddyman What power supply are you using? I had issues with peripherals when trying to use my 900ma USB port on the back of the TV. With the 2.5A Pi PSU it works with a lot more. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Chickje [3]steddyman What joysticks are working for you? -------------------------------------------------------------------------- johnnyhotrocks xbox 360 usb pad dont work....very surprised as though it was a dead cert [4]:( the box symbol just flashes. a ps2 pad with a logic3 usb converter works but needs a button re mapper as fire buttons seem to be the shoulder buttons and rather they be the face buttons. i tried 2 pc pads i had lying around and neither worked. not tried my hori nintendo switch usb pad and my hori xbox one usb pad as of yet so will keep you posted when i do. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- spannernick1 Yes usb Snes controller works,That what I am using now.. [5]:) Video soon. its 45 mins long video of inside TheC64 Mini..Uploading now.. [6]:D -------------------------------------------------------------------------- W12MODS [7]spannernick1 all I have with a usb connected controller is a Power A playstation controller no one has mentioned if they work yet -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Gurce [8]spannernick1 how's that vid upload going? I'm curious to see it [9]:) -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Jammet I have several controllers I will be testing as soon as I get the device. Among them the (wired or dongled) 8bitdo SF30, the iBuffalo SNES Controller, And the CSL SNES Controller, as well as several XBOX 360 Controller clones, not the original variant. The last actual Joystick that I have, is a Flightstick for PC, which I won't be attempting to get to use, it'd just be impractical even if it was working. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Chickje I couldn't get the 8Bit do SF30 to work. I'm hoping all these pads are automatically configured as Joystick one and that a future fimware will allow you to swatch joystick ports. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- spannernick1 Its up now.. [10]:D I let it upload all night. [11]:) [12]https://community.thec64.com/d/164-new-video-about-thec64-mini It took about 3 hours to upload.. lol -------------------------------------------------------------------------- spannernick1 I have a Xbox 360 that is cable only not wireless If you want me to try that I can,I have as well a PS4 and ps3 controllers to that I could test and make video of me doing it..? In the original video they showed at a show, they were using a USB SNES controller,I wonder why they didn't use the Joystick,I can guess why,Well mine is not great it has a mind of its own, when I press left it goes up as well. Its so hard to play the tank game, don't know the name of it,you are looking from above and go round blocks and you can shoot them. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- johnnyhotrocks wii u pro controller wont work just flashes looking for a wii u lol. ps3 with usb cable inserted looks like its working but then the sticks begin to play up after a few mins and it stops allowing movement or it becomes jerky. hori nintendo switch usb wired pro pad dont work either. rockcandy xbone wired pad added to the non working list. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Scorf PS 2 with a USB adaptor works well - have posted and put links in other threads -------------------------------------------------------------------------- oldskool IBuffalo works for me. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- chris1981 I am using a snes gamepad and it works really well. [13]IFrame -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Darbyram [14]chris1981 I have one like that and works ok -------------------------------------------------------------------------- rgvirdis [15]chris1981 same here, it works perfectly -------------------------------------------------------------------------- countermeasure [16]chris1981 Here's the same item on the US Amazon site, for $14.99 (ASIN # B01N48L71I) for those of us in the US [17];) [18]http://ibb.co/bVbF2S [19]IFrame -------------------------------------------------------------------------- spd1975 [20]chris1981 Also, using these... 2 in the box. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Scorf I think we’d all like to know where to get one! Couldn’t see any on eBay or amazon. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- winst81 Hi. I've tried the 'Raspberry Pi Compatible USB Gamepad / Controller ("SNES" Style)' from PiHut, and the direction pad seems to work okay to move around the carousel, but none of the buttons seem to be mapped, so I can't select anything. Does anybody know if there's a way to get a fire button working? Thanks! -------------------------------------------------------------------------- mrrockitt [21]W12MODS I have and does nothing at all [22]:( -------------------------------------------------------------------------- [23]Next Page » References Visible links 1. https://community.thec64.com/ 2. https://community.thec64.com/d/153/1 3. https://community.thec64.com/d/153/2 7. https://community.thec64.com/d/153/6 8. https://community.thec64.com/d/153/6 12. https://community.thec64.com/d/164-new-video-about-thec64-mini 13. https://ws-eu.amazon-adsystem.com/widgets/q?ServiceVersion=20070822&OneJS=1&Operation=GetAdHtml&MarketPlace=GB&ad_type=product_link&tracking_id=_&marketplace=amazon®ion=GB&asins=B01EA7MVTQ&show_border=true&link_opens_in_new_window=true 14. https://community.thec64.com/d/153/19 15. https://community.thec64.com/d/153/19 16. https://community.thec64.com/d/153/19 18. http://ibb.co/bVbF2S 19. https://ws-na.amazon-adsystem.com/widgets/q?ServiceVersion=20070822&OneJS=1&Operation=GetAdHtml&MarketPlace=US&ad_type=product_link&tracking_id=_&marketplace=amazon®ion=US&asins=B01N48L71I&show_border=true&link_opens_in_new_window=true 20. https://community.thec64.com/d/153/19 21. https://community.thec64.com/d/153/24 23. https://community.thec64.com/d/153?page=2&id=153-which-joysticks-work-with-the-c64-mini-my-list [1]The C64 Community Loading... (my list) walnutwhip anyone tried the ibuffalo usb snes pad? -------------------------------------------------------------------------- PantherUK [2]walnutwhip Yep, works fine for me... -------------------------------------------------------------------------- johnnyhotrocks Well i got in contact with the C64 team this morning and was told most usb controllers should work but they can only confirm that the competition poo clone they supplied actually does. I asked them what model and brand of usb controller they were using at the Italy trade show recently and was not given an answer.....now we know why they used another usb controller, it was down to embarrassment of their stick rather than it being the only one at the show and didnt want to risk it....yeap risk the general public seeing the thing and finding its not fit for purpose [3]:( I do have high hopes of them patching in decent support for usb controllers but i just hope its sooner than later as for me the machines back on the back burner until they do and it feels like a wasted £70 at this moment in time, not including the £30 on a usb pc joystick that dont even work on it (which was returned to argos and told them it didnt work.....when it actually does just not on the machine i bought it for and then swapped it for another brand in the catalogue for the same non working situation [4]:(...cant keep returning them until i stumble on one from the argos book that works lol. ) -------------------------------------------------------------------------- walnutwhip [5]W12MODS i vaguely remember someone saying they tried a db9 adaptor, and it did not work. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- mrrockitt [6]walnutwhip That's a shame! Was going to try that tonight! -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Goclastninja I think the stick is ok ive not had any problems using it yes its not great but it gets the job done, ill happily use it until support is more solid for using usb pads etc -------------------------------------------------------------------------- scottyhp Does anyone know if the SNES mini or the NES mini joypads work for the C64? I seem to remember they are USB (I think). -------------------------------------------------------------------------- johnnyhotrocks [7]scottyhp they are not usb they are a nintendo branded connector. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- MAD [8]scottyhp they use the wii connector [9]😑 -------------------------------------------------------------------------- scottyhp [10]johnnyhotrocks bummer, ok thx. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- johnnyhotrocks [11]W12MODS Apparently not, just as well i found out as was about to plough more money in to this C64 mini and buy one of the cables/converters as have a Sega Megadrive Arcade Stick and a few pads including a speedking amiga 500+ joystick. Whats more annoying is the C64 Team member im chatting to seems to think the Competition Poo clone is fine (all i can say is they must have low standards if that joystick is fine) and that there is a decent support of usb alternative controllers. Now Raspberry Pi has a similar claim and you would be hard pushed to find a major brand usb device that doesn't work, shouldn't the C64 Mini team be aiming for similar results rather than go on the defensive and avoiding the turd in the package the supplied joystick and severe lack of usb support despite claiming it has it. Heck they wouldn't even give the brand and model of the alternative usb pad they used in Millan trade show recently and i only asked 3 times. The C64 mini machine is great but beginning to feel i should have waited and bought it when they actually finished it and give decent support for alternative controllers if they are so reluctant to supply a decent one in the box......as it stands a wasted £70 not including the £30 on 2 usb controllers from argos that it wont recognise despite it supposedly being able to support most of them. LOL. 1 semi working usb alternative controller out of 10 i tried is not decent usb controller support, then factor in all the ones reported here that dont work or semi work it's not a good ratio. Just becoming frustrating knowing you should be playing it rather than disussing frigging controller support or asking for help from the team and getting told everything fine. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- oldskool [12]johnnyhotrocks Ibuffalo controller works pretty well mate. navigating the UI necessitates a trial and error of pressing each button and writing down its correlating function - so you can reference a piece of paper to go in and out of menus and load and save etc. But that will be fine once you get used to it. The controller is SNES in style - the dpad - works well with most games (not perfect for games that require greater dexterity that a joystick provides - thinking Emlyn Hughes Soccer, 5 directional movement, Winter/World/Summer games waggling etc) but the dpad is very good and the fire button works - albeit left and right shoulder buttons - the menus all work perfect with the pad. They're about 16 quid on Amazon. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- walnutwhip [13]oldskool thats the problem with using pads. the buttons are all over the place. this machine really needs a way to remap buttons. infact this machine needs a lot of stuff added to its firmware. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Darbyram Just tested my home made joystick, it has a zero delay encoder for the stick and buttons. looking good but further testing required.... -------------------------------------------------------------------------- mr_appleby [14]Darbyram may I ask the rough outline of what you've done? I'm considering a trying to create an Arduino-based device with microswitched joystick. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Darbyram [15]mr_appleby Its just a zero delay encoder kit in a box. has a joystick and buttons. but having a few problems with it at the moment tbh. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- walnutwhip [16]W12MODS theyre not as good quality. ive got one of those innext pads and the dpad on it is hit or miss. ive used an ibuffalo and its near as dammit the exact same as a real snes pad. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Goclastninja Does the power glove work -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Darbyram With zero delay encoder everything good in the carousel. in games left and right don't work correctly for some reason.(only small movements, if any at all) -------------------------------------------------------------------------- FineLerv Might it be worth editing the original post to list the joysticks that are confirmed to work? -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Gurce I'm feeling like it might be worth collecting all the nuggets of good info within each thread and ordering/structuring them on a wiki somewhere -------------------------------------------------------------------------- RetroBiker [17]Gurce Can we persuade Retro Games LTD to list supported controllers on the main website? -------------------------------------------------------------------------- [18]« Previous Page [19]Next Page » References Visible links 1. https://community.thec64.com/ 2. https://community.thec64.com/d/153/28 5. https://community.thec64.com/d/153/30 6. https://community.thec64.com/d/153/31 7. https://community.thec64.com/d/153/33 8. https://community.thec64.com/d/153/33 10. https://community.thec64.com/d/153/35 11. https://community.thec64.com/d/153/30 12. https://community.thec64.com/d/153/37 13. https://community.thec64.com/d/153/40 14. https://community.thec64.com/d/153/42 15. https://community.thec64.com/d/153/44 16. https://community.thec64.com/d/153/41 17. https://community.thec64.com/d/153/50 18. https://community.thec64.com/d/153?page=1&id=153-which-joysticks-work-with-the-c64-mini-my-list 19. https://community.thec64.com/d/153?page=3&id=153-which-joysticks-work-with-the-c64-mini-my-list [1]The C64 Community Loading...
