Idea: Will there be a way of adding a game to the Carousel screen...? spannernick1 Idea: Will there be a way in the future of adding your own game to the Carousel screen...? I was thinking it would be nice to add a game but I know you have to think of the way it do it,cause of the info, screenshots(it uses 2 of them) and box art and the ,d64 file it loads the game from or if it loads prg file instead, and depend on how much space THeC64 Mini has for games, you could do it where all the info and screenshots and that are on a USB stick maybe and it copies it to the Carousel screen,Reminds me of a skin on a Front End for a C64 emulator,I like its nice, well done.. Great work so far.. [2]:) Anyway maybe one day, thats how I would like to play my own games on TheC64 Mini. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- RetroBiker [3]spannernick1 That seemed to be suggested at one point for update 1.0.7 but is no longer mentioned. At least, it said you could specify an image and text for your own games. I read this as meaning you’d be able to add to the carousel. Will see... -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Jammet While adding a game permanent like that sounds like a good idea, I still hope that a proper file browser for USB devices will see the light of day as well. I would like to attach a small hard drive, or an SD card reader, or, if I absolutely have to, an USB Stick. To include a game in the proper main selection would require some meta data, and the device isn't capable of accessing the internet. So we'd need some software to put it on a storage device for us, and a firmware that would detect and install said data. And why not have something like that? You could go as far as publishing a software that does exactly that, but also has a built-in games store, or can install games from various legal sources as well, as take those you picked manually. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Gurce [4]Jammet Yeah, I also like the idea of one day having internet connectivity for the device, auto firmware updates, an online shop to legally buy games to add to the carousel, ability to view the game's manual internally. Anyway, those are big dreams that might take time, and I recall one very vocal user in the early days of the forums was adamantly against this idea, saying it wasn't financially feasible for a company to invest so much time and effort building such infrastructure if the financial reward in return didn't warrant it. While he did express his views quite aggressively at the time, I accept there is truth in what he said, and every company has to mull over these decisions carefully and assess their financial viability. Ah well, it doesn't stop us from dreaming eh? :-) -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Jammet Oh, the device itself does not have to be online. I was thinking, about just a program that would interface with it, through USB storage, or directly via USB. This bit wouldn't be an unreachable goal at all. [5]:) But more? Sure. [6]:) I'll dream! -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Goclastninja Well the pi is only 30 quid or something and it has wifi I think It should have been able to connect to the internet would of made firmware updates much easier and stuff but thats only an opinion still think its an awesome product -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Jammet Maybe I was unclear. There is no wireless support on the device. There just isn't, which is why I was thinking that a store front program would have to be run on another computer. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- References Visible links 1. https://community.thec64.com/ 3. https://community.thec64.com/d/138/1 4. https://community.thec64.com/d/138/3
