Additional Games stuarty38 Anyone know the best place to get c64 games that i can add to my c64 mini? -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Jammet There are nearly endless sites that offer downloads of games, but if you're looking for something special, there are new games being published, too. Protovision publishes and even sells them, for example. Some are given away for free as well. A few months ago, Planet X-2 by David Murray was released, an amazing real time strategy game. Part of me wishes some of these had been included with the Mini as well. It was such a great opportunity to show the world that the C64 is actually getting new games, all the time. Look for cool games here: [2]https://itch.io/search?q=c64 [3]http://www.psytronik.net/ There are plenty more. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- stuarty38 thanks for that as i was looking for classics like blue max, ghostbusters , up n down etc -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Jammet In that case I can't help you. Many, many of these older games might be available here and there, however, but I cannot say for certain which downloads are legal, or licensed. It is likely against forum rules, if I posted links to those. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- RetroGamesLtd As others have said here, these forums are not to be used for promoting sites where illegal downloads can be found. Please observe the Forum Rules for clarification on this point. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- JohnnyG [4]RetroGamesLtd Is there any chance future firmware upgrades will add to the 64 games built in? Or is that it? Also, I notice in the faq it says some games have been altered to work better on the mini. Does that mean all the games on the mini have been rewritten from scratch? I assume for the games you included, the original licence/IP holders you contacted didn't have an original d64 image just lying around? Or did they possess the original assembler code and you've built a linux compiler? I'd be really interested in knowing how the original games were ported. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- scottyhp Call me naive, I didn’t realize those sites were illegal (or offering illegal downloads). Kind of a tough situation considering most of the games we are talking about are more than 30 years old, and there is no other way to get them. It’s not like you can bop on over to the software store on the corner and buy it on floppy disk, lol. But point taken, as there are still licensing issues and copyrights, we must assume. It’s too bad these things can’t become public domain after a time, especially when their companies have long since gone out of business and the formats they were created on/for are obsolete [5];) Enough about that, I’ll move on [6]:) When can we order the C64 mini in North America?? -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Jammet I presume very simple modifications have been made to enable some of the games for the joystick buttons. Not all games require it. Let's take Boulder Dash for example, where in the menu screen you flip through the controls, level choice, and difficulty. You also need to be able to restart a cave where you get stuck. A pause key. So that's F1 covered, as well as F2, spacebar, Run/Stop, and so forth. Some games might need more keys, or the function changes, or the key itself is used differently. Things like that might have been straightened out. Copyright notices might have been revised, also. I can't remember there being any "offensive" materials in these games, but ... as you mention adding new games in, let me just say that I hope no games are going to be removed, for the german version. {Cough} Who Dares Wins II is on the german index, still, as far as I know, and removing it from there is surely a simple process today, as many older games have been removed from it, but requires that a fee is paid, and that the current copyright holder takes steps to get it removed. While I'm sure Retro Games doesn't get into trouble, it might be safe to check on that. Games were censored in the past, like Commando, in Germany, and I hope nobody saw the need to censor anything else this time around with the games on the system. But we're getting off-topic, a little. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- References Visible links 1. https://community.thec64.com/ 2. https://itch.io/search?q=c64 3. http://www.psytronik.net/ 4. https://community.thec64.com/d/113/6
