Can you use a USB to DB9 adapter..? spannernick1 Well I noticed no one asked it,can you answer Mr Andrews (that so weird,It's like I am asking myself.. [2]:) ) Can you use a USB to DB9 Adapter so I can use my Joysticks,I have with my C64 Compact,(I would love you to make the full sized one like that, and in black with white keys well not brilliant white beige white like on the C64C keyboard.. [3]:D ) -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Gurce I'll also be curious as to whether such adapters work. Maybe someone within the community might get a chance to try and share their experiences with us here. I remember there was a thread which discussed the possibility, so I'll cross-reference it here: [4]https://community.thec64.com/d/81-old-arcade-stick-on-the-c64-mini -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Grendel Hi! Tried my USB to DB9 -adaptor and nope, doesn't work. The device requires THEC64 joystick, at least with current firmware. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Gurce [5]Grendel Thanks for sharing Grendel. Just wondering what brand of usb to db9 adapter you have? Just thought it'd be good to keep track of which ones work (if any :-)) and which ones don't. Hmm, I had another read of their FAQ here and might've found a possible reason: [6]https://thec64.com/faq/ In the Q: "Can I use my own USB controller as well as – or instead of – THEC64 Joystick?", they mention that their firmware is looking for a usb controller with a minimum of 8 buttons, so that might be why old c64 joysticks via the usb dongle don't work, aww :-( But who knows, if enough people want this, maybe they'll make a firmware update to permit good old single-button joysticks too? I wouldn't mind making use of my old joysticks too, though I do appreciate the extra buttons they've added to their joystick too. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Goclastninja Can I use my ps4 controller with it and use the analogue stick instead of dpad -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Grendel [7]Goclastninja Didn't work with Xbox One pad so I doubt PS4 pad work work either. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- holdlang [8]Grendel [9]Goclastninja Ps4 controller working fine. Xbox One Pro controller is not working. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Gurce If it is linux underneath it all, then maybe it is possible, with a bit of elbow grease, as I'm reading that some ppl have gotten the ps4 dualshock controller to work under linux: [10]https://askubuntu.com/q/546811 If anyone figures out how to get it working for our platform, please share your steps :-) -------------------------------------------------------------------------- RetroBiker [11]Gurce They have indicated that other USB controllers should work, as long as they have at least 8 buttons. It’s going to be a try-and-see process for a while, though. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Gurce [12]RetroBiker Yep, I'm aware, I read their faq page ;-) My point in this case though is that if there is initial failure when attempting to use such controllers with the system, but there is info online that your fave controller can be made to work in linux, then there still might be a glimmer of hope (for those willing to go the extra mile to chase up the possibility ;-)) -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Gurce [13]holdlang Thanks for sharing! :-) Did the analog stick function too on the ps4 controller or just the dpad? -------------------------------------------------------------------------- holdlang [14]Gurce [15]Goclastninja it’s working -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Goclastninja Yeah not worth a wank if the analogue stick doesn't work -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Gurce [16]Goclastninja hehe, well I was just re-asking because I recalled that it was definitely something you were looking for in your prior post. For me, I'll be content using the provided joystick, but my nephew (and perhaps his generation? :-)) is not a big fan of joysticks and so the ability to play c64 games with a modern controller will be a big bonus for him. That way, everybody's happy! :-D -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Goclastninja Haha cool bro ill use the joystick myself just nice to know all the options -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Gurce [17]holdlang Thanks for the update :-) -------------------------------------------------------------------------- References Visible links 1. https://community.thec64.com/ 4. https://community.thec64.com/d/81-old-arcade-stick-on-the-c64-mini 5. https://community.thec64.com/d/103/3 6. https://thec64.com/faq/ 7. https://community.thec64.com/d/103/5 8. https://community.thec64.com/d/103/6 9. https://community.thec64.com/d/103/5 10. https://askubuntu.com/q/546811 11. https://community.thec64.com/d/103/7 12. https://community.thec64.com/d/103/8 13. https://community.thec64.com/d/103/10 14. https://community.thec64.com/d/103/11 15. https://community.thec64.com/d/103/12 16. https://community.thec64.com/d/103/12 17. https://community.thec64.com/d/103/15
